River and bridges

Recommended Posts

I'd really like to see some rivers and bridges in the Resistance add-on, since it will take place on a new island. It would bring a whole new dimension of strategy to the missions (not that they are lacking now).

IT would be nice if that was the only way some Non Amphibioius armor, and/or troops could traverse to some areas of the Island. That would make it strategic. Same with mountain passes.

The History channel had a show about American gunships used in Vietnam. They were covering a ship that is in the game too, the PBR. It looked just like it. They talked about how it was very useful clearing the riversides of enemy troops and helped stop the flow of supplies to the enemy.

I think it would be awesome to have rivers and marshes in the game, nice way to get around the island:) It would give the gunships already in the game a more important role. I really haven't seen them used strategically at all, pretty hard to:(

Destructable bridges would be of great value in strategical hindsight, excellent mission stuff would become possible with implementation.

An bridgelayer as backup and last resort once bridges have been destroyed would balance it somewhat again. If an opponent managed to destroy all bridges to keep the fight airborne, long range or only with light troops, there is the possibility of total surprise when you cross the river at a point that´s not within his expectation and covered by observation. If you´d however get caught by crossing a river that way, the limited maneuvering you can do will make you a sitting duck for Planes and helicopters.

But before seing rivers and bridges i personally hope for more varied terrain in a possible OFP 2, that not only consists of either slopes or flat gound, but also ditches, bumps, craters, dugged in fortifications/ trenches etc.

100 sq. km is just too small to have rivers (at least big ones)

probably couple of lakes and 2000m+ mountains tounge.gif

I've seen user made bridges made from pallets, sandbags, and other in-game stuff. They actually look pretty cool. You can find them in the Op flash editing center forums.

what I dont' see is why BIS doesn't make some larger maps for seperate down load. maybe a 20km x 20km map would be kinda cool. I know that it wouldnt' run on slower systems, but if you place a warning before you download it might be worth it to those who can run the larger maps.

Propably because making islands is a huge job to do. Just think about placing all the trees, houses, roads, etc. each individually by hand into a 20x20km area, and make it look realistic and good...

When that tool is released to the public or even to some MOD makers who would like to execute this idea.. we could have large maps in a glance.

What i am talking about is this: if we can get ahold of the file encoding or structure for maps we could write a tool which can read images representing area maps. We could then place objects on that map according to the colours found in the image. And we could use the official tool to finish up the work.
