Server FPS. What is it and how do I read it?

I've seen many mentions of this.

I always thought that FPS meant frames per second but as the server doesn't actually display anything, I'm wondering if it means something else.

Anyway, what ever it means, How do I get to see the FPS of my server?

From the wiki:

#monitor (interval in sec)

Shows performance information of the server. Interval 0 means to stop monitoring

You'll need to be logged in as server admin to use this command.

Yes i think FPS is here not Frames per second in terms of "picture frames", but rather maybe call it "simulation cycles per second" or similar.
