theavonlady 2 Posted March 4, 2002 Lately, I've been tinkering with BIS's Dragunov (see this thread). That reminded me of a bug I discovered with the M21 sniper rifle while I was testing out one of the 1.2X beta versions. It's still here. I created a small test mission to demonstrate this but you can try this out in OFP's Bomberman SP mission. What you need is an M21 sniper rifle and binoculars. Refer to the illustations, below: 1. Bring up weapon view and zoom scope in on target. 2. Switch from M21 to binoculars. 3. Switch back to M21 weapon view. Notice how the scope's zoom has been automatically reset to minimum? Readjusting the scope over and over is not fun for serious snipers.
theavonlady 2 Posted March 4, 2002 /bump (wasn't fixed by 1.46 ) Seriously, BIS, any hopes of fixing this and the Dragunov problems I documented?
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted March 5, 2002 After looking at your pics of the Dragunov, I don't see a problem. The first chevron is 250m, 2nd is 500m, 3rd is 750m. You aimed using the 3rd chevron and hit that poor civvie in the head. I see what your saying though. That the 3rd chevron should be on the ground (at the guy's feet) instead of the 4th one. (is this what you mean?) I beleive that the rangefinder on the Dragunov was meant to find the distance using a 6ft tall man as a reference. So you used it, found the proper distance, and shot the guy in the head instead of his feet. Looks fine to me but I have never used a Dragunov IRL! Tyler P.S., yes I agree, the M-21 scope bothers me while sniping and should be fixed. Re-zooming can be a pain.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted March 5, 2002 to Assualt(CAN) I think what theAvonLady is trying to address here is how rangefinder sux. the thick lines of the rangefinder seems to be a painful bug. also to theAvonLady, WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP USING CIVILIANS AS TARGET!?!?!?!?!? WKK Gimbal 0 Posted March 5, 2002 What drugs are you guys taking? Why are you using binocs when your rifle has one mounted on it??? The scope has better range, can zoom, and doesn't require to switch weapon before capping someone! So please tell me what you're using those silly binocs for ... huh??? BTW, I like that it's zoomed out by default. When you have to fire very quickly, it's a better view to start from as you got better overview of the situation, after selecting scope. It's like this old film-technique, where you ALWAYS start from far away and zoom in on a scene, to establish an overview, right? Right!
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted March 5, 2002 True. But it's not realistic! Hey Avon, how can you see past 500m? How do I change the view distance? Can I change it? Past 500m in my game, I can't see anything but 'fog'. Thanks Tyler
Greg 0 Posted March 5, 2002 If Avon just means that the binoculars screw up the 'zoom' from the gun scope, then I have noticed this bug as well, but forgot to report it. Does appear to be a simple but annoying issue.

The chevrons are fine and the top of each chevron is the potential bullet path. My problem with the Dragunov scope is with the rangefinder curved line, to the left of the chevrons. My target was 750 meters away. When I use the curved line to measure the target's range, he fit's snuggly under the curved rangefinder line at 600 meters - not at or near enough to 750. If however, I draw an imaginary curved line connecting the bottom of the small vertical lines that are just above the scope's curved line, then the target's range does indeed show that he's 750 meters away. On a real Dragunov, the curved line that you see in the scope is what you're supposed to use to calculate range - not the vertical lines above it. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Ralph: WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP USING CIVILIANS AS TARGET!?!?!?!?!?<span id='postcolor'> I let this one go. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">WKK Gimbal: Why are you using binocs when your rifle has one mounted on it??? If your targets are spread out within a directional area you're attacking, a quick switch from scope to binocs often makes it much easier to spot them faster. Bottom line is that in real life, your scope doesn't magically jump back to minimum when you put your gun down and use binocs.
