24Gamer 0 Posted September 6, 2008 When in overcast conditions dynamic shadows are not used, even under dim lit conditions objects will cast a shadow, for example a car on an overcast day will still cast a dark shadow under it's chasis. it looks very out of place either having shadows on or off. i hope you will consider this suggestion. thx -Jamie
SaBrE_UK 0 Posted September 6, 2008 Good idea. I remember old games had a "blob" style shadow that was, I suppose just a texture placed under the character/object. Perhaps this could be used when the weather is overcast?
24Gamer 0 Posted September 7, 2008 exactly, any dev's want to comment?
LJF 0 Posted September 8, 2008 Also, what about a better shader system? Something like Crysis (put the pitchforks down plz). I just don't like the "tiled" system of soft shadows in A1.
twilight21 0 Posted September 8, 2008 Lo All, first post on these haloed forums so don’t burn the new guy if he missed a post.. I think the AI solution will develop in time if anyone has seen the FNL Combat Video Fight for Nogova. It looks like these script monkeys may have something or at least prove that the AI can be improved further within the community with the odd little nudge from BIS. However for all the game play, beautiful environments and fantastic add-ons by the community can someone please fix AI motion. Movement just does not seem to be fluid, soldiers pivot on one leg through 360 while the battlefield sees troops bobbing up and down for no reason. I know the animations are available it just seems that transitions are missing between the actions. Anyway enough of the negative… Hey BIS programming dudes ever thought of adding a few variables to models and a little scripting to your collision detection.. Just thinking on the fluid game play thing.. Could your character automatically adjust their position to make use of the cover they collided with? For example a car, you would kneel over the bonnet or boot while the roof you would stand. A further nice touch would be that a character would collide with an object and while under fire assume a protective posture… aka holding helmet and praying etc.. This could also be applied to having a quick look, typically a reflex response by all soldiers. Although adding nothing to the game these ambient reflexes would add much to the games atmosphere.
