[aps]gnat 28 Posted June 29, 2008 (edited) Considering I only downloaded L3DT (standard) this afternoon, this very nice program could make the initial part of making an island for ArmA very simple. This is VERY rough and ready (half an afternoon). - Really just a Tech Demo - 102km x 102km !!! - only 2048x2048 textures - No objects - Water level not quite matched to sat map (dark blue coast in some bits) - Only 4 terrain types - Snow on the mountains, but I didnt bother making a snow texture - Fairly quick to load - DONT increase you View-Distance an extra amount, it may crash ArmA (memory gets eaten up) With no object flashing by, its hard to comprehend the HUGE distance. I'm sure better can be done by just spending a little bit more time in L3DT and Visitor3 Next test should be to try it at a reasonable 52kmx52km ....... spirit 0 Posted June 29, 2008 That is the easy part indeed. What was the horizontal scale for this. At the moment my texture is being generated. This after making the heightmap, mapping, leightmap etc etc. 20 by 20 km artic map. Takes 7 days to generate the texture map (sat map 20480x20480). I can assure you its going to be fun to generate it for the above:). Not to mention i spend quite some time generating the stuff before the texture. after the 7 days are finished i go generate the alpha map (mask). Ofcourse before i started this i made a small scale test project. It looks great. Keep you updated. Lets hope my computer doesnt crash

Snake Man 407 Posted June 30, 2008 Too bad that those 102 and 204km terrains wont work properly as ArmA crashes eventually.
bravo 6 0 Posted June 30, 2008 Too bad that those 102 and 204km terrains wont work properly as ArmA crashes eventually. It crashes because the settings may not be balanced. Gnat, can you post a pic similar to the one i did with those settings, please? Maybe we can make it work using 10000VD with out crashes! edit: also we might have to change some of the config.cpp settings. edit2: it does not make any sense that we can not use 10000vd! Its all in the settings. And i have an idea why it crashes.. Just post the pic i asked
