croc4 0 Posted January 22, 2008 I have played a number of coop missions where you liberate one town then move on to the next etc etc. Each town is like starting over just the terrain is different, so it does not remain enjoyable. So I was thinking, if this was a real battle, and one town was attacked, wouldn't the near enemy bases send re-enforcements? or at the very least they would go on high alert. I would love to see more of a "battle front" type mission where you attack one town, enemy troops are sent to re-enforce the town, depending on how long it takes to free the town, you might actually run into the re-enforcing troops as you move to the next objective, thus giving you a more dynamic battle field. I don't have the time nor the knowledge to build such a mission, but I think that this would be far far better than the static "take town A, then take town B...repeat...repeat". and if done right would add a lot of dymanics to the game and prevent any one mission (like EVO) from becoming boring as its the same pretty much every time you play it. gsleighter 0 Posted January 22, 2008 If you want some quickie fun in the editor, try putting some enemy units in their base or another town on the "Guard" waypoint. While on guard, they'll move to secure any open "Guarded by opfor" triggers, or automatically move to engage known Blufor units. If you put the guard waypoint in combat movement mode, the enemy will vary its speed and direction better, and does a pretty good job showing up unexpectedly. They will also use bounding overwatch to move, and stick in concealment more often. When you attack the first town, they'll start moving towards you to engage. If you set up some quick unit templates in the Command Engine, you could play attack and defend missions for hours, that take very little time to set up. croc4 0 Posted January 22, 2008 meant to add this earlier, while the above idea is not earth shattering, it would be nice if this could be a "plug-in" for others making missions such that what ever work was done could be re-used by others, making every coop mission more dynamic and less predictable on a larger scale. One thing I see is the lack of synergy between mission makers, while there may be a myriad of reasons for this, it would be nice if there was a repository of work that could be placed on a site that allowed people to pull from while making their mission, saving them from re-doing someone else's work to achieve the same outcome (maybe there is something like this already I'm not aware of??). Maybe even something along the lines of a mod , where it supplements the mission, allowing the AI to coordinate and be more aggressive without the need for every mission maker to duplicate work. True AI did some work in this direction to some extent. I realize the effort this would take from all the mission makers/mod
Blazen 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Evolution did the reinforcement thing. It's the whole point of destroying the radio tower so that reinforcements are not sent into the city. You can actually see convoy's coming into the cities and they come from different directions each game. Of course what really happens is when the AI die they respawn in the form of convoy's and squads around the city. It would be nice to see real reinforcements coming from thier actuall posts in other cities, however it would be a lag fest when your talking 15+ towns. croc4 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Laggy?, maybe, but I would not expect all the surrounding towns to send in everyone, that wouldn't be realistic either, at the very least once you take once town the next/surounding towns should be on high alert, I have not seen this happen, or even them sending in artillery, heck any action that showed some spark that ties the map together and shows you your fighting any army not some random soldiers on "leave" would be welcome. Am I alone here?, I would love to see a more interactive battle, even the AI fighting as a force, not just random soldiers shooting at you from town. I just don't get the feeling that I'm fighting a "force" of soldiers. The Ai just seems to run arouns in the towns, I'd love to seem them fall back to a defensive position and either counter attack or retreat as a group and then regroup.
