[noob] throttle issue with 'copter

Recommended Posts

FIRST POST AND I BELIEVE I HAVE PUT IT IN THE WRONG SECTION, SORRY MODS.

Hi all, i've decided to learn the ropes by playing a bit of the editor (add some enemies fight them, add a few squad members and instruct them, stuff like that). well i decided to add a helicopter  and fly it around to learn how to fly, but as soon as i get in, it starts up and takes off, and i cant decrease the throttle (default page down i believe).

I was wondering if i am doing something wrong? thankyou for any help.

ArmA v1.09

AM2 6000+ X2 cpu

3072mb DDR2 6400

728mb 8800GTX

Please refrain from writing in all capital letters. If you want to highlight something there are bold, italic and underline formatting options.

There's no real throttle key for vehicles. You accelerate with W or Arrow up key and decrease speed by breaking with S or Arrow down. Same goes for the choppers, with A you take the nose down and accelerate, with S you take the nose up and decelerate.

Maybe have a button stuck on your keyboard (W?)

Or a controller attached isn't calibrated or something resting on it?

You've not upset me nor I was joking but pointing you slightly towards the forum rules:

Quote[/b] ]§12) Do not type in all capital letters

Typing in all caps equals according to standard net etiquette to yelling. It is also difficult reading such posts.

it has to be one of these, although the only controller attached is a playstation2 controller, ill have to have a look.

despite many peoples claims of a "digital" all or nothing power,

if you setup a controller with a throttle (not sure about the ps2 controllers) you can adjust power incrementally.

if you want to go up very slowly eg you have it just above mid way, want to go up quickly, have it full.

Be aware that while the control is not binary (on/off) it is anything but "throttle."

Throttle implies that you are controlling the engine power or thrust directly. In ArmA the power control is heavily interpreted by the game.

Yes^^

Ever since the reviews from day 1, they wanted realism where they could, but they did stress that for the benefit of the majority, aircraft would be 'easier' to fly.

For example, if you dive steeply with full throttle on the helecopter, and dive with no power, it makes no difference to the forward speed. I was very impressed that despite the simple air model, they added the ability for you to land the helecopter if the engine gets shot out, auto-rotation or something i think the proper name is called, and it is done in real life.

Ahh well see you have a PS2 controller and when you enter a vehicle you would have to hold whichever analog is set to throttle all the way back so Its not giving half-throttle when you enter a vehicle

Or calibrate so that dead center is zero throttle and back on the stick is reverse

I have a wireless Gravis analog which is almost exactly a PS2 controller. I hardly ever use it
