Those with problems with 1.20 to 1.30 patch

Ok, I've tried everything to update from 1.20 - 1.30 anything ever mentioned is incorrect.  I have DMA on both CDROM and CDRW.  I have several Burning software programs installed.  I have everything on my KT7 RAID enabled.  So with all my b*tching on this forum about upgrading I was about to give up.  Here is what I did now whether this works or not, it just worked for me.  I had my disk in the drive started the patch as always and the OFP Screen came up for a few seconds then nothing I kept the zip file open and ejected my disk from the CDROM and wouldn't you know it the install came up and installed up to 1.30.  If this alone does not work for you the only other thing I had going at the same time was I had installed CloneCD and it was in my taskbar and I did the above mentioned and I was able to upgrade.  So if the first alone doesn't work try installing a trial of CloneCD reboot have disk in and after the OFP screen disappears, eject your disk.  I hope this cures everyone because I've been bashing my head for weeks trying to get this installed.  And the obvious worked for me...  Good Luck All...  :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Kevin If that is a solution to the problem, I can hardly imagine what programs need you to do with your computer in the future. Instructions: To upgrade OFP place a Beer can in CD-ROM tray while putting a cracker in floppy drive... SafeDiscV3

Ok I mentioned earlier I have two computers and I had the same problem on my second also.  The key to this is to have Clone CD running in the system tray, use the latest version though 3.2.2.1.  You'll see the disk down in the system tray after install and reboot.  Make sure everything is checked within CloneCD Auto insert, Auto data and audio.  And I did the exact same thing as my first computer.  I started the patch zip file then ran the .exe from within the zip.  Then as soon as my light stopped blinking and I mean right as it stopped blinking and the OFP Mini screen disappeared I ejected my CD and it worked again.  So two for two for me isn't bad considering a lot of people are unable to get upgraded at all.  I know every computer is different but twice isn't just coincidence...

Just another note.  You have to un-install game, delete the c:\program files\codemasters directory.  It has to be a legal copy of game.  A Clean install of game.  Then try those other items mentioned.  It may take a couple of times but I purposely used my second computer to test to figure out what exactly might have kick started the d*amn patch to work.  And if you follow my second reply above it worked twice for me.  Both computers had the exact same problem.  Only one of the two computers is VIA though, so why the patch wasn't working on it either is beyond me.  I know this all sounds like a joke but I was where everyone else was with this thing, I went two weeks several emails, several posts and nothing worked...  I know the feeling, but soon as I seen that patch screen come up it shocked the crap out of me also.  But if it works twice for me and I can help one other poor soul out there then it's more than anyone else has done.

Yeah, you're definately right with that.

I will try that out later again (I got clone cd 3.2.1.1, maybe that's why) and I am always happy for a exotic, but hope inciting idea.

That might actually be the problem. I updated The FAQ item on Via chipsets at the end of last week. Take a look.

I got good news!

it did not work with that clone cd trick at first.

Yet after my computer crashed (windows... or was it aol? grrrrr) I rebooted and noticed that now I had a clone cd tray symbol in the lower right corner.

I wondered whether that'd make a difference so in my desperate situation I launched the upgrade 3 again (with my cd in the CD-RW I also installed the game from) and #### it upgraded!!!

But I am not really sure if it was due to ejecting the cd. I am not absolutely sure but I think the update screen (after the the OFP logo) already appeared before I ejected.

Anyways, it seems (at least for you and me) to work when clone cd tray *symbol* (not just the prog in the taskbar) is on and you launch the upgrade.

If not, try the ejection cd trick in addition (see first posting in this thread).

Oh and theavonlady, thanks for your hint, but that is not the cause since it always worked before on my via chipset board computer. Besides, it took forever to find that specific part in your FAQ (had to use search since it is so crowded on that page and somehow not overlookable).

Oh, and Kevin Maximo, great work for finding this out. At least for me it worked, but maybe for all others as well? I hope so! Thank you very much!

Anyways, I got twice RAM in my computer, all adding up to 512 MB RAM, I don't believe that is the cause (why the heck would I want to take that out, just because a game does not work???) since with that clone cd trick it worked.

Glad to hear it worked. I was only posting what things I did differently. One was updating CloneCD to the latest and the other was ejecting the disk. It probably was the software alone, because I never waited long enough to see if it came up without doing the eject disk trick. It just came up when I did that so I figured I might add that as well for a just in case. I also can't see that many people actually having CloneCD period. I'm glad you rebooted to get that in the system tray if you read my other posts I mentioned that. That's why it didn't work for you the first time, it has to be autostarted down there for it to work. Well your welcome and I hope this helps other people out as well. It's better than not working at all. We are at a 3 for 3 now with this rediculous remedy...

By no I have even tried the Unsafedisk dumper and rebuilder...

it is realy ironical that you by an original name with a nice box and everything and then you need to resourt to hackers stuff to try and install a patch.

Just a sidenote : I had to use the "open CD" trick to PLAY the game when my OS was Win98. When I launched the game, I had the OFP banner and then nothing, until I open and close the CD.

And same problem when patching.

I am now under Win2k. Not a single prob, it has just disappeared. ()
