Stuttering *textures*- brand new issue

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just now encountered a new issue with Armed Assault (well, new for me at least). I have heard plenty about the various glitches and such with nvidia 8xxx series cards, however I have not heard anything about old Ati X series cards.

I am running an Amd Athlon X2 4200+ @2.69 Ghz and my Gfx card is an Ati X800 XL (Stock: 400;490 OC'ed@: 461; 603) and I am using Windows Vista x86 with the newest Ati Drivers (cat 7.9 i think?)

My overclocks are stable, I have checked them and torture tested them again and again, and I was able to play Armed Assault with them fine until moments ago.

All I did was install the "TrueView" mods to my ArmA Installation, and Now I am getting various texture glitches (Ie, Black spots rapidly appearing on the ground or on rocks, and the sky flippin out occasionally). At first I thought perhaps it was the new Ui, but then I realized this was not so. Then I thought "perhaps my x800 is overheating?" this was not the case, I have checked it and its absolutely fine. The game atm runs great, steady 25 or so frames (On Rhamadi :P, anywhere else and it becomes a slideshow) however this new "glitch" is unbearably annoying.

Has anyone else had any problems with the old Ati 'X' series cards? Does anyone know what may be wrong? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, ArmA is my favorite game in the entire WORLD and it is a bummer to not be able to play it anymore  huh.gif

EDIT: I was just now playing, and everything was okay for a few moments, but about 7 minutes in, the textures started to do it again, and even in the editor i saw the screen warping, then, suddenly and without warning the entire game crashed to black, and i heard a sound glitching over and over again (sounded like a broken record). I had to restart my computer..... so apparently something is not all that stable now is it? I checked my temps before it happened, 40 degrees celcius which is normal for my grafix card, and im not sure as to my CPU temp, but when it overheats (and I know this a lot because I overclock hard sometimes) the air comming out of my fan gets to feel warm, the air was very cool to the touch jsut before the crash... so I dont think it was overheating.... anyone know any solutions yet? any ideas?

Mods: Perhaps it would be best to change the title to "Flickering" or "Shuttering Textures", The thread below mine (or maybe it is above now) placed the wrong word in my head! biggrin_o.gif

Check to see if the GPS map if flickering, sorta like a kaleidoscope, when it's loading/unloading/loading again, or whether tansparent stuff like the HUD and chat text is flickering sometimes.

If so then I also had this problem with the 7.10 drivers (using the Omega equivalents), and had to roll back to the 7.9 equivalents. Try going back to 7.9. ATI have done something stupid with the 7.10 IMO.
