bigfoot killer nic M1

Recommended Posts

having read all the good reviews of this i wondered if any of the minted few out there had got one and tried it with ArmA.

having seen the reports of 10FPS extra in arcade style games like CS:S and the massive increase in playability in MMORPG's like WoW, i thought that this might be just the job to release that extra performance in ArmA

for those not in the know about this piece of kit (a linux machine on a PCI card, bypassing the tcp/ip stack of MS) check these pages

just be interested to know if this would improve te gameplay aspect of ArmA

if anyone has got one please let me know

Esco

muropaketti.com test showed actually worse fps in some games like cs:s, and the ping wasn't that great ovet a normal integrated NIC. Buy an intel NIC, you get much much much more value for money.

i discussed this there

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....1168969

anyway i would not 'shoot' Killer NIC as BS ... in theory it may be ideal game server NIC

if it's true theirs designer was one of key developers of Intel Pro/Server NIC series ...

tho Intel Server boards got 128KB buffer (twice as Killer) then killer get 32+32MB own DDR2 ram which offers quite large 'cache' potencial ...

also for some reason i don't trust test where older Realtek onboard NIC is faster than dedicated NIC (Killer) with own offload procesing unit

not to mention RLT uses only 1/4 buffer (8/16 versus 64kB) and doubtful full state UDP offload (max checksum) ...

something seems to be wrong in that test (drivers, hw config or so)

so are u saying it should be good for ArmA, Dwarden?

£180 is a little too much until i see some solid results, if someone tells me they have a decent rig and it makes an improvement in the resposiveness then i might well splash that £180.

Sig fixed, or at least back to how it was before that HUGE GIF was added
