Puting and Ambience into your mission.

Recommended Posts

Hey, well I've been working on a private military contractor mission for ArmA with the queens gambit mercs. And I feel that it needs alittle more immersion. I remember for OFP, FFUR/SLX had tracks and enviroment sounds in which you could set as triggers and they would loop and what not. Well I have the ambience file I've recorded from Iraq combat videos and I need to know two things. First off, does it need to be looped before its put into game? And 2nd, how do I even get it in the trigger lines to even hear it in-game? Any help is appreciated thanks.

First off, the recently updated "Arma Edit" available from armaholics among other places will make your description.ext file for you which you need to do to add custom sounds/music to your mission. It has a very basic help file/tutorial that even i can follow.

before you start, shut arma down.

1) Convert your sound/music to .ogg format. There are plenty of available converters that do it for free if you don't already have one, just G it.

2) in your mission folder, make a folder called Sounds and one called Music. Copy your ogg files into the relevant folders

3) Run arma edit, goto the description file wizard, and fill in the blanks. If you already have a description file, here's your chance to cut'n'paste the stuff you need for your sounds, otherwise just save it.

4) Load up arma/editor and your mission. Your sounds / music are now accessable via a triggered event.

I'm gonna asume here you have some music to be played ONCE when the action starts so you get the idea how to do it once.

5) Make a trigger over the objective, activated by: Blufor / detected by / Opfor. set it to once.

6) leaving the rest as is, goto the effects button lower left, and in there is some stuff you can do, including playing your music. Click Tracks, and down near the bottom of the list, should be the filename of the song you added.

7) ok it all, and save, then preview, and bingo biggrin_o.gif
