DocBane 0 Posted September 26, 2007 Hello. My friend is having problems with his ping. He thinks it is caused by F-Secure 07 but is unsure. He's tried playing over internet and over lan but both ways the ping keeps bouncing from 50 to 1000 every few seconds. Any advice? His system: OS - Win XP RAM - 1.5Gb CPU - Intel Celeron CPU 2.80ghz GPU - NVIDIA Gforce 6600 Networ Adapter - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8803/8010 PCI Gugabit Ethernet Controller
BraTTy 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Celeron 2.8 surely can't handle virus program running in background while playing. I use Kaspersky Insternet Security and I have XP4000+ cpu and it would be close to 20% performance loss if I let my virus program run while trying to play. Not only that , most all virus programs has its own type of firewall protection. I don't run anything like that while playing games.I have never got a virus or hacked like that while playing games if thats his worry he shouldn't be gaming (Celeron is not a gaming cpu nevertheless) If he had some super cpu he may be able to run virus program while playing. He needs to shut off EVERYTHING running in background But his ping jumping is most surely the firewall protection edit: ping jumping could also be spyware...virus program doesn't necessarily remove spyware too, I use a few programs to keep mine clean When someone uses my PC thats most often when it gets infected...I need to enable ALL virus protection when I walk away from PC if others use it I also use to use Panda software and if I left it enabled I would gradually lose internet connection for all stuff
-Puma- 2 Posted September 27, 2007 download this: spybot and run a full scan to see if theres adware. personally i hate f-secure. the worst prob i got with it, that it would restart my computer for no apparent reason. I use AVG AND it hasnt given me any probs.
DocBane 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Thanks for the replies. I like AVG as well, I can play online games fine with it being on and it's not once crashed a game because of some updates (mainly because the updating's scheduled for morning :P).
-Puma- 2 Posted September 28, 2007 i can tell u a horror storie about f-secure. when i got my first pc and was a total noob with it, the comp would just restart on itself. after i took it to service for about 3 times, i found the prob myself. it was f-secure, and after i unistalled the whole BS, the comp then worked like a charm.
