Supposing IDs > 999999999 are auto kicked ban etc

Why doesn't ID ban work ?

Is it because of admins not present ?

What about implementing a cheater report :

while playing a game you spot a cheater and then you type something like #cheater name/id then the server saves the name and id of the *criminal* in a file so admins can check it later and see who gets the most cheater reports.

Server admins could also organize a central list that they can share.

Have you restarted the server since updating the ban.txt file? It does work for me.

That's not a bad idea, I would like to see that implemented. It would probably get abused though since Admins cant observe games that easily and there wouldn't be any proof.

Actually my question was why ID ban doesn't work effectively as an anti-cheater because I noticed people still complain alot about cheaters...

For me it's a proof that there's something not going right..

Adminless servers or bad configured servers that allow >10 digits ids wich means cheaters come back with a new id and make banning useless.

I think solution would be :

ban all ids > 10 digits (is there a system to make true ids? well we will see if we do this) -> admins doing their job or implementing my cheat report system -> centralized banlist (which already exists as you said JasonD)

Another possibility is that some people complain about cheaters without any real evidence, just that they think they could not possibly be beaten and therefore anyone better than them is a cheater.

Just bear that in mind. Of course the people spawning things all over the place and so on are blatantly cheaters.

Time to defend the admins.

1) Theres no way to ban all ids > 999999999 unless you type them all into ban.txt manually.

2) Hackers are making progress in creating programs that can generate IDs < 10 digits, and possibly in private use are programs that allows you to choose what ID you want, and the program generates the cdkey for you - although I can't confirm the truthfulness of this myself.

How long would it take to read in 1000000000-9999999999 from the file? Is there a length limit?

Could run a php file to create it i guess, but as pointed out it won't be small.

well, if thats the case, then just make it so they cant connect to servers with >10 digit IDs. dont bother banning, just dont let them in.

did a little reseach on this

And looks like all comes to a dead end, when ever we come to a

solution to sorting it these hackers they seem to find away around

they always seem to be a step ahead,

what can we do to stop them, its mental,

I have give up and just go with the flow, banning kicking,

nothing seems to work

they just do what they do best an piss everyone off.

Seems to me the very hackers have infiltrated my topic biggrin_o.gif and making everybody lose hope (appreciate their strategic sense).

Always mention your sources otherwise I'll think your a hacker or a pessimist guy.

To know that for sure you need to use the program yourself. Hackers/cheaters will always say it's useless to try (it's their interest).

And why the hell not? We could create some admin-only 'hacking tools' and just annoy them so much they leave, setpos them 9999999999 meters up high in the air, place them @ [0,0,0] and spawn so much FPS killing bushes there they will have a hard time just closing the damn game, etc etc etc. tounge2.gif

What are you talking about? You are a known griefer.

The one hope I have is that they are human & they must sleep some time. That's when I will play. Or maybe their programmers will realize their deeds are being recorded and they'll be hard pressed to find work when they visit the professional world. Or maybe years from now when they release a game or something it too will be griefed by the next generation and they will lose sales.

the only people who can do anything about this is BIS.

and Deady, you are correct about the new keygens, i witnessed it last night on the IMO server.

we had 3 guys come in with what looked like normal IDs.

needless to say, the server got hacked, only thoes 3 guys could move around and still had their weapons (they removed everyone elses).

they also took controll of our ability to type text in the chat bar, they could type stuff out and it would show up as you were the one who typed it.

they could also see what your are typing in the chatbox as your typing it. a grey box apears on the top left and they type what ever they want there, and they can send that to anyone or everyone.

after that they sent us all to the banana room, and the orriginal 3 were the only one without a negitive score, its a shame i didnt have fraps running at the time, but i will have it on when ever im playing from now on.

Don't worry, have faith in the Arma team to find the best way to stop the cheats.

Blocking 10 digit IDs would be a good *hotfix*, but not good as a long term fix.

I'd also like to warn admins that they can indeed make innocent players say stuff, including advertising of cheat sites. An easy way to spot if someone is being made to say something (using the very simple GlobalChat scripting command) is that what they say appears in CAPS.

I know I am ranting but the mission makers are the ones who need to help us out. If all the mp mission makers did the following we could release a tool to help stop this junk.

Mission Makers.

1. Stop relying on client side scripts, you can with some thought do every stinking thing on the server. Just send down small scripts to each client to do something needed. It can be done. Dialogs and what not don't matter but the whole create vehicle thing does matter.

2. AGAIN!!! No more create vehicle from the client side. Never never never use this command outside the server. It's a problem and will always be a problem.

3. Add scripts to undo the disable command. Have it undo the lock all the time so if they do this stuff they can't take over the game.

4. Check a players position every so often then check it again to catch the speed/accel client hack. It works and only eats a small amount of cpu.

If people would do that then we could release a tool to help with the problem. There have got to be some coders here who understand sockets. We have the ability to do some programing to just drop some packets, or just block everything from that client then on. This way that person just sits for a few moments in their own little corner and can't do anything. Granted we cannot touch all the hacks though that we can live with.
