d3nn16 3 Posted August 26, 2007 I took some time to think about a map that could eventually replace Evolution and be more interesting. You tell me about it. This map is a mix between CTI, Evolution and Battlefield. I don't master perfectly the scripting language in Arma (just made simple CTF and DM maps), so I'm posting this map idea in case some experienced map makers out there want to work over. A side commander will organize creation of camps with few squads at start. The other players that don't start in the squads can pick up weapons and fight until there is a camp commander that can recruit them and give them missions. The game ends when a side has no more officers (ranks above Caporal) or when a side loses all its bases. Details : Side Commander : - highest rank on map (or first to get the highest rank) - if the highest rank is Caporal side loses game - can assign himself or any squad leader as commander of any existing camp/base (see "Camp/Base Commander") - can assign missions to himself, to camp/base commanders and to squads that don't belong to a camp/base - he's the only one who can give camp creation mission to camp/base commanders and to squads that don't belong to a camp/base - can set to *recruitable state* any squad or soldier of a squad that doesn't belong to a camp/base Camp/Base Commander : - rank Sergeant minimum - can place inside camp/base area a limited number of elements (tents, medic tent, sheds, fortresses, helipad etc) - can recruit among *recruitable soldiers* and transfer from squads recruited in his camp/base - can set to *recruitable state* any soldier or squad leader recruited in his camp/base so he can be recruitable again by any other camp/base commander - gives missions to squads (including his own) recruited in the camp/base he commands - can give the camp creation mission to his squads if he received it from side commander - can give to his squads (recruited in his camp/base) missions that were given by the side commander to him Squad Leader : - can receive missions if he has Sergeant rank minimum - can become camp/base commander if he has Sergeant rank minimum - controls anti desertion system (he can allow or not some of his soldiers to detach from the group and get away from the squad leader for certain purposes - sniper sent to kill alone) - soldiers getting too far away (300 m) are killed (as deserters) - can be transfered in another squad or set to *recruitable state* by the camp/base commander of the camp/base where his current squad was recruited - if a squad leader has rank under Sergeant his whole squad and him enter the *recruitable state* Soldier following a leader : - can be transfered in another squad or set to *recruitable state* by the camp/base commander of the camp/base where his current squad was recruited *Recruitable State* Soldier : - any player that connects will respawn as this - by default has rank Private - can be recruited in a squad by a camp/base commander - can pick up weapons and fight but he will not receive promotions - gets weapons & vehicles when all his squad members entered the camp he was recruited in - he joins his squad as soon as he is recruited (before entering base) Promotion : - Side Commander : * promoted when his side controls more camps/bases, for longer time and destroys enemy camps/bases (holding camps/bases = slow promotion - destroying enemy camps/bases = fast promotion) - Camp/Base commander : * promoted when holding camp/base for a certain time, surviving enemy assaults and when his squads accomplish missions - Squad Leader : * promoted when accomplishing a mission and being close to his squad when mission accomplished - Soldier : * promoted when accomplishing a mission according to the kills he made since mission started * higher rank squad leader gives higher promotions after accomplishing a mission Camp/Base : - a round area anywhere on the map (with medic tent, ambulance, transport vehicles, support vehicles, etc) - camp upgraded to base when accomplished certain number of missions (3) - must be separated by a minimum distance - an enemy camp/base must be discovered before assigning a squad the mission to capture it or kill its commander - depending on camp/base commander rank and type of area (camp or base) certain squads can be recruited & certain infrastructure elements added : * Camp : ** Sergeant : *** Troops : basic infantry squads, motorized patrols *** Infrastructure : tents, medic tent, ambulance, transport trucks ** Lieutenant : *** Troops : Mechanized Inf Squads (Strykers) *** Infrastructure : sheds, fortresses, support trucks * Base : ** Captain : *** Troops : tanks, transport helicopters, AA squads, boats *** Infrastructure : helipads ** Major : *** Troops : attack helicopters, AA tanks, saboteurs *** Infrastructure : ** Colonel : *** Troops : planes *** Infrastructure : static cannons Missions : - create camp (a squad leader builds some tents and a medic tent for example; camp will have no commander until side com assigns one) - capture enemy camp/base (kill all enemy forces or be present there with a superior force for a certain time without detecting enemies; the "seized by" condition of triggers can be used with timeout) - kill enemy base commander - kill enemy side commander - each kind of mission will have a time limit after which mission is canceled and considered failed - reward will be proportional to mission importance - more squads can be assigned the same mission (capture enemy base for ex) but only squads present in that base when it's captured will get promotions according to the kills they made Other : - when someone disconnects or dies he loses his rank and respawns as a recruitable soldier - at start both sides will have to create at least one base in a certain time limit otherwise side loses game (the game ends when all bases destroyed) I would like to know what you all think about this idea. Does it interest you ? I'll try to start making the map myself if no one else proposes to do it but it will take a long time.
d3nn16 3 Posted August 26, 2007 Do you think it's worth taking the time to make this map ? I wait for your opinion.
dmarkwick 261 Posted August 26, 2007 I think part of the popularity of Evolution is it's fairly brainless gameplay. That is, the possibility of brainless gameplay, so people can endlessly spawn in, do whatever they feel like doing then leave after a few hours or so. As such, you'd have to make a game that also allowed for brainless gameplay while allowing also for intelligent gameplay. So no, I doubt you'd displace Evolution But yes, you should do your mission, more is always better.

colligpip 0 Posted August 26, 2007 This idea sounds a bit like rts4 but with rankings so i like it. good idea. I would like rts 4 mixed with evo rankings with moveable spawn apcs you could spawn infantry troops at the front line from, so if you just fancied a quick gunfight you could start right in the action or start from a camp and build up vehicles etc
