Securom Rootkit Installed With Arma?

Recommended Posts

Please do not start a flamewar but I feel I have a right to ask this question.

There has been a lot of concern lately about the new game Bioshock and how a rootkit is installed by Securom (owned by Sony). I did a scan with "Rootkit Revealer" and it reported I had a Securom rootkit on my system but I never installed Bioshock or its demo.

There are only two possible culprits that installed this rootkit on my system. R6: Vegas or Armed Assault.

I would REALLY love to hear from BIS that no rootkit was installed with Arma and its patches. That means NO hidden files and NO hidden registry entries.

Disclaimer: I love Arma and I am not trying to stir up trouble. However I have a right to ask what was installed on my system and the right to let software companies know that I do not want rootkits on my computer!

Yes you have a right to ask,

but consider this too,

what harm does the possible rootkit do for you? That's a key question I think.

The biki, this page lists the copy protection currently being used in ArmA. Depending on which version you have, there's either Securom, Softwrap, or Starforce. You can attempt to draw a conclusion from there.
