Which Mobo, Memory, GPU For ArmA?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at upgrading my system specs to try to play this game at higher frame rates (my system is about 3 years old now).

Does anyone have any thoughts on Mobo/CPU combos plus RAM and a new GPU (the GPU will have to wait till I have more cash).

Thanks,

Rich

Hey there Lawman.

Well as you know, ArmA is a strange beast. First off, id recommend a powerful GPU. Not sure what you have now, but when you do upgrade, consider one of the 8800 series cards. GTX and GTS can run the game nicely. Ive been very happy with my GTX, ArmA performance wise. Not to mention it will also leave you ready for DX10 games in the future.

For a CPU, id still go with dual core. Despite what people say, ive still gotten better performance with my dual core AMD X2 4800+ when playing ArmA than with my P4 3Ghz cpu. Not to mention, these days you shouldn't even build a new pc that doesn't have at least 2 cores on a CPU. Im sure you'll use the pc for other things than playing ArmA.

You should only need 2GB of ram. Currently any more doesn't really give any benefit. And some motherboard chip sets will force the memory into single channel mode, down from the speedier dual channel mode, once you get past 2GB. Oh and dont forget, if you're using 32bit Windows XP it wont even see a full 4 GB of mem. It will register 3 and some change. Rather disheartening.

get core 2 duo, something like e6600, if ur into overclocking, OC the hell out of it, they'll go into 3ghz easily with stock cooling. if not e6600 is still a powerful beast. for mobo get socket sumthing that supports that cpu, maybe ASUS(dont really know about intel mobos) 2gb of ddr2 ofcourse. later if cash is no problem get maybe the new nvidia 9800 series, as they've probly solved some first gen issues with GPU's.

just a reminder that amd barcelona quad cores are coming soon, so maybe i would wait a bit with the upgrade and do it near christmas,

when company's are pushing new stuff into christmas market, and u could get the older stuff cheaper-
