amos m 0 Posted December 2, 2001 I got a problem where when I start runnin' for a bit I start hearing a little white noise instead of footsteps, also happens if I'm runnin' in a direction that I'm not looking. I think it's some kind of memory/buffer problem or something cause if I fire a shot or there's other ppl around me (new sounds added to the buffer) the problem ceases. By memory if I turn off hardware acceleration this problem goes away, but sound is not so good. Does anyone else get this problem? spex. wine 98se soundblaster pci64 geForce2 mmx/400 32m 190m 133/mh ram
theavonlady 2 Posted December 2, 2001 It just sounds like another symptom of sound board problems when EAX and hardware acceleration are enabled. You can search The FAQ for "footsteps" and "eax" but I haven't seen any promissing solutions to date - just a lot of cursing, mostly aimed at Creative Labs (though I have the footsteps problem with a SoundFusion based chipset). ScreamingWithNoSound 0 Posted December 2, 2001 My mind is a little hazy on this one... I'm not sure the SB64 supports h/w acceleration / EAX. If I'm wrong, the only thing I could suggest is updating drivers.
amos m 0 Posted December 11, 2001 Yeah, it's supposed to support it, but I don't get the option to turn on eax, only hardware acceleration. nm I got me a live now, only problem now is my cd has some very little scratches on it around the edge, and now I can't play the farkin thing. I'm confused...
amos m 0 Posted December 16, 2001 OK. My new problem is that I can install ofp, but I can't play/upgrade the thing. If I try I just get the message to use the correct cd. The reason I think that the little scratches cause this is that I presume that safedisc reads from the small area at the edge of the disc. But I'm workin on "alternative" solutions now, just need to get patch 1.2 and 1.3 workin properly. I can play the game now, but the cd is basically useless, except for reinstall.....and maybe to get a replacement cd.
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 16, 2001 Codemasters has changed the SafeDisc engine a few times during OFP's relatively short lifespan, and V1.30 is in fact unhappy with my hardware, which forced me to use a NoCD hack. My guess is that you have the same problem. If you can still install OFP from the CD, but it isn't recognized during the V1.20 -> V1.30 upgrade, there is no damage to the CD due to scratches. amos m 0 Posted December 17, 2001 Yeah, I'm not sure. I had ver 1.3 working. I live in aus and use the eu ver of ofp. I have to install 1.11, 1.2 and 1.3 and other addons after 1.2 or 1.3, I don't remember the order at the moment. My "alternative" sollution has worked for the original game and the 1.11 upgrade, but not fully for the 1.2 and 1.3 yet. I have not tried the other addons yet as I haven't been able to get 1.2 workin anyways. Geez I wish the email notification would work. I always gotta go lookin for my repies, and this icon board thingy doesn't always tell me the folders that have new replies in em.

The default (and recommended position) is one position to the left, which means EAX is not available by default.
