What would win?

Yeah. Trusting American television was your first mistake... icon_rolleyes.gif

Trusting American television? what do you mean by that? i bet that the f-22 can take down 7 of them,Its the best fighter in the world by a longshot, and it will be for the next 15-20 years, so i think we will trust "american television".

Well the Raptor can carry 8 missiles at most, great. 7 su 37(using it as its slightly more realistic than the 47) Can carry 98 Air to Air Missiles. And if the ground controller was smart he'd order them to take out the AWACS and tankers, so the F-22 is flying blind and with limits on range and dogfighting time...

In a straight up 1vs1 fight maybe, but getting 98 missiles towards you theres a chance 1 would hit, oh also the 7 30mm cannons firing at it.

Offcourse I'm talking out of my ass here as I havent flown either in a dogfight.

The F-22 has stealth mode so it can fire missiles at you without knowing.

I'm going to regret posting here, but I was in the area (*cough*porn bot*cough*), so what the hell.

1. The F-22 is not "stealth"; it's low-observable!

2. The F-22 can carry up to 12 missiles, 8 internal and 4 external. Unfortunately, to take external missiles means it is no longer low observable (unless you're using some hush-hush secret missile with the same low observable technologies - unlikely).

3. When a F-22 employs a missile, it has to open one of the bays. That means for a brief time, it's going to be lit up like a xmas tree.

Now, with that in mind:

Su-47 is a R&D aircraft. What that means: you aren't going to see them used operational unless somebody forks over the dough. Which isn't likely with programs such as the MiG 1.42 in the works - which embrace the future. IF the F-22 is used operationally, the most probable opponents would be older aircraft - MiG-21, MiG-17, MiG-29, Su-22, Su-27, etc.

Let's also keep in mind that 1vs1 is a thing of the past. Teamwork is the name of the game, people! But assuming a 1vs1 gunzo fight happens, then my money is on the F-22. Of course that depends on how hard the USAF is training those Raptor boys on gunfights - which probably amounts to, say, nothing.

If this is 1 vs 1 in a missile fight, the F-22 is all over the Su-47. Don't talk to me about R-73 - that does nothing if you can't get close enough to use it. Which is the real kicker of the F-22: it fires a weapon when it gets close enough, and for a brief time the Su-47's got to find that F-22. Once that bay closes - uh-uh, you ain't seeing it unless you're up it's butthole. Thus you're left with Fido coming after you and effectively, you're on the defense. Not a pretty situation.

But this all comes down to speculation and opinion, because the chances of this fight happening are damn near zero.

I would. Definitely.

Nah, but doesn't it come down to the pilotingskills also? Of course, there are plains that are more agile, faster, better protection, more stealthy etc etc, but the pilot gotta do a fair bit of the job.

I mean, it's not the golfclub that got Tiger Woods to the worlds elite, and neither did the F1 car get Schumacher to the elite.

It was themselves.. Right?

The F-22 has stealth mode so it can fire missiles at you without knowing.

It has the same radar cross signature as the F-117, one of which was brought down by a 40 year old AA missile system.

As soon as the F-22 opens its weapon bays, it has the cross signature of something the size of a car. So as soon as it goes to fire at one aircraft, it has 7 aircraft firing back, same happens when it fires its gun, as soon as it fires its gun, it aint stealthy.

Offcourse if this is a BVR fight its going to be very hard to spot, but if its in visual range it would be easier, not much but still easier.

Anyway, the thing will be top dog for 5-10 years, the technology will be one step ahead of it.

You wear armour to protect from a bow & arrow, so they invented cross bows, etc.

Anyway this is my last post here, since I'm not an expert on any of this.

[injoke]I'd say 500 grizzlies would win[/injoke]

Wasn't that an Abrams? Maybe with a honey pot inside to make it more interesting for the Grizzlies? [insider]nener.gif Was that before or after you got banned nener.gif [/insider]

Regarding the question at hand, as long as we don't know about the radar cross section of the frames and the maximum range of the used missiles to pick up a target it will be hard to make a guess.....

That's a great way of explaining it....

That only happened because the idiots in charge had them flying the same route every mission. Eventualy the Serbians cought on to this and were waiting for him.

This is the stupidest question.

America always wins.

There is no debating that fact.

Don't you have imagination? America didn't win the vietnam war did they? But thats because north vietnam went to cambodia and cheated in the laws of wars. smile_o.gif But no America doesn't always win.

Once upon a time, in the "old days" of this forum, we used to get "Who would win" threads all the time.

Eventually we learned to just close them straight away, as they always degenerated into spam and flaming.

I would rather not have to go down that road again...
