New Idea - Using 2 Screens

Recommended Posts

hi guys, My idea is that basically you have a main screen, the one you have up most of the time, then you have the second screen is your map screen, and in RTS can be your STATUS MENU screen, etc.

There are a few games out there that will allow natively to support two screens, for me it would be nice, I have a 24inch widescreen LCD and an older 19 inch LCD I could utilize.....

Some guy bragging with screen shots with 3 screens, I think the more normal case if there will be multiples it will be 2.

Yes, will be much easier and less time consuming. I don't like using 2 monitors where both are used to split the view 50/50 so I never use it, but if I could use one for a tactical side while the main one was the battle view, I would definitly use this.

The way arma is setup you couldn't do it. Dialogs and what not plus the map is cheating unless in vet mode. Since you could see people on the map where you might not. Even three screens i think is a little bit of cheating since you can see so much.

Also, was not bragging. Trying to point out an issue with the terrain. Heck i cannot even play mp with three. Two screens is just useless to be honest.

Actually I was considering using the screens for different things, not one image spread out over two or more screens....bigger is not better...sometimes it is smile_o.gif

Yeah, but with the current state of the game it is impossible for it to work. Also the way the engine renders direct x it would require a huge re-write to even enable the feature.

I like this idea. Oh it would be so nice to have the map on the second screen other perhaps other dialogs when you were map editing. It would also be nice to have the cross hairs off center a bit either to the left or the right to really make use of two monitors.

I play over at armai and I run my TS and a High-res physical map in PS CS2 that i can add notes to over teh course of a day. It was nice to have reference map of paraiso up while you worked your way around it. It doesn't have live markers on it, but it helped allot.

if you look to the side a bit it works to a degree with two. Grin. If we could make dialogs that accept mouse input while being able to play that would be cool. (Prolly can i just don't know how).

Being able to put realted 2D stuff onto a second monitor would be truly awesome.

Think about it:

For editing you could have ingame ref guides, an overview map and/or various other stuff (possibly even a live 3d preview window)

For "soldiering" you could have the map up there.

For flying you could have either a few instruments, or (if the aircraft has it) a zoomed in view of a functional MFD.

And thats just a few ideas off the top of my head. Could be very very cool biggrin_o.gif

(Dobut it'll happen for ArmA tho sad_o.gif )

I would be happy to just have the map editor spread out over the entire surface.

Here's how supreme commander did it (I dont like SupCo, personally, but I like the idea).

one side is the map, other is the unit

CHOOSE THE LAYOUT IN THE SETTINGS -- PRIMARY ADAPTER, SECONDARY ADAPTER:

Not promoting mac, but you get the idea:

You know IF we had a second screen, NOT ONLY could we view map and status menu's etc.

We could have separate camera's for AI views....see what the AI see, MUCH like modern Army and Marines commanders do with their Helmut mounted Camera....

Little boxes for each AI or we have a list we could scroll through the AI and it gives the AI view?

They use the intel from the cameras to influence decisions they give on the ground....

Oh! the benefits of a second screen.....!

My clan using a program called Battlefield 2 ATC which lets you draw on the map and everyone else can see it.

But not everyone has 2 monitors. So you can't do it mid game.
