Armed Assault: Sound messed up

Hi everyone..

I have been looking for a post like this but couldn't find any sad_o.gif so my problem is: When I am playing the game, and tanks are coming my way, I can hear them coming from very, very far. I suppose that, in RL this isn't possible. I have an onboard AC97 chipset from RealTek, and have updated those drivers to the latest version. I have also updated the game. What can I do to solve this problem? (BTW: EAX: DISABLED/Hardware Acceleration: DISABLED). I cannot enable hardware acceleration.

Are you useing the stock ArmA sounds or a soundmod?

Get the latest drivers from your motherboard manufactures or RealTeks website. That might help. Also the latest OpenAL drivers here.

I am using the original ArmA (No mods) and I have already updated the soundcard, motherboard and OpenAL.. I can hear a helicopter silently starting his engines at 1km.. don't think this would happen in real life though. Problem not solved yet. Any ideas?

Buy an sound card, Audigy 2 or better.

Onboard sound needs resources from you`re CPU and RAM, and can slow down you`re system ~10% or more.

I experienced problems every time i try`ed to run an PC with onboard sound. Every time the problems where fixed by disabling the AC97 sound, and plug in an PCI sound card.

and how much does these soundcards cost? I'd like the cheapest one with 7.1 surround, EAX-featured.. any good suggestions?

The Audigy2 Value supports 7.1 sound and EAX, every later card too.

If you can find one of those cards, they should be very inexpensive. wink_o.gif

Are you sure that something ist wrong?

I could hear MBTs and Helos spooling up at 1 km in real life in my active military days.

I get the same effect here. If I place myself down in the oil area down south of Sahrani and then place an A-10 on the runway north of there, I can hear it power up for take off. That's miles away with hills inbetween too.
