I'm going to buy a Geforce 8800GTX, my question is, does ArmA run good with this card or not?

Currently I have a 7800GS+, but I only get around 20 FPS with all settings on low.

I've got a 8800 GTX and with the recent patch 1.08, and the latest nvidia drivers it's much much smoother, there are still some weird issues (here at least) where shadows on some vehicles (delivery boy mission for example) and a misty environment, they look kind of strange but the view distance and detail levels really add to the fidelity of vision 100fold. I wish the GTS versions were out before I took the plunge with this 8800 gtx tho, mighty costly.

I should say that all settings are on very high (except for textures which is on recommended default setting to use 512mb or more of vram) and whilst at a medium draw distance it's silky smooth. Once you start increasing that wildly you'll get slideshow city. Also the CPU will make difference too, running a dual-core intel e6700, which makes a difference as well I'm sure.

I got a Planit 8800 GTS 640MB and it runs real nice.

Can average 30-50fps most games with almost everything maxed out in the settings. I run 1280x1024 res ingame.

I never did really have many of the problems others complained about. With 1.08 I still get a "graphics error" CTD if I Alt-TAB back and forth between desktop and the game too many times. (after about 20 times, done because I'm addon and script testing).

I'd recommend it anyway, but the problem is I'm not sure why others have problems.

My specs;

Gigabyte 965P-DS3, Duo 6420, 2GB ram, Win XP Pro 32bit with all current patches, No OC'ing

My 8800GTS works just fine. When I was able to play it was smooth as butter.

ArmA is what doesn't work.

it works great with my computer, cept for the CTD on getting the memory error, so once thats fixed it will be great (unless it makes more problems)

Made the switch from a X1900XT to a 8800GTS. Main difference is that I now can play with shadows set to high with the same FPS the 1900 worked with shadows turned off completely.

I play in 1680*1050, 2xFSAA, 16xAF, Shadows High, Postprocess Low (not for FPS issues, but I don't like DoF effects at all in any games, for I want to be able to focus my attention and get a clear image on ony part of the screen i want - just like in reality, where I look at, it's sharp, not blurred.), blood high, object detail normal, landscape detail low, shading low. 3500Meters of Sight.

FPS are about 25-90, mostly about 30-40 during missions.

CPU is a C2D running at 3000MHz.

Real Issue with ARMA is that i won't run ok under vista, which all my other games do now (after some probs in the beginning).

What are the graphic options that i have to set to high or whatever to get this (512mb or more of vram) in use? I got 8800GTS 640Mt. Or does Arma use this automatically?

Thanks in advance

i have 320 MB GTS and it run the game fairly well, while the price is about half of the GTX i have to say the 640 version is a very good spend if you want to have a DX9-DX10 crossover card
