A10 AGM-65 and laser designator?

Recommended Posts

Last night we tried out buddy lazing with Cobra/Harrier/A10 and it worked great in MP (also with human pilot and gunner in Cobra), great work BIS!

However we noticed one thing with the A10 and I don't know if it's by design or maybe a minor bug? When flying the A10 the lazed target showed up red in the "mini radar" but it was not possible to lock it and fire a AGM-65 on it. We had no problems with LGB's or Hellfires.

Anyone knows if this is by design or maybe a minor bug in current 1.08 version?

That would make sense to me. The agm-65 for the most part is a tv/ir guided weapon. With the exception of the agm-65e which has a laser seeker head. I beleive it is used only by the Navy maybe Marines also.

My thoughts also but since the lazed target showed up as red on the "mini radar" also on the A10 I don't know. If you fly for example the AH-6 (no guided weapons at all) a lazed target show up as white in the "mini radar".

Another (minor) thing that could be due to my settings/drivers. When looking thru the LD and firing the lazer I don't see a red dot as in OFP, only a very dim white light at the lazed spot. Are you guys seeing the same?

Also want to mention the working PAPI and landing lights on Parisio airport, just wished the lights along the runway was brighter but none the less great attention to details BIS!

Here is a picture how it's working (it's the 4-unit we have on Parisio airport)...

If you intend to fly planes make sure your rig can handle higher viewdistance (~5000 m or higher) since thats make huge difference when flying planes and don't expect IL-2/LOMAC/F4 flight models wink_o.gif

Hellfires yes, Mavericks no.

For the reasons Musket explained.

Funny thing is that the Hellfires appear to be both radar and laser guided in Arma.

I think that's intentional. As it moves further away it does turn into a red square.

Although isn't it invisible to the naked eye in real life?

You are right Maddmatt, after taking a close look a tiny tiny red dot is there when looking further away.

I've never used a mil laser designator in real life but I assume the beam/dot is invisible for normal eye but having a visual que in the sim/game is a good thing IMO.

@ Puma: It's been there all along in ArmA and the good news is that BIS fixed the laser designator problems that plagued OFP so now it's works as it should also in MP. Great fun to buddy laze targets for your buddies flying CAS.

Back to the AGM-65 issue, after thinking about it I'm pretty sure they could lock on laser targets in OFP, anyone remember?
