wex-q 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Perhaps if the map was located locally on a serverbased system, but that would probably need like 40-50 Quad-Core Xeons with 16+Go DDR, and just farms of HDDs to share the "world". It would be possible if all the harddrives worked as nodes, so any node could cache a large amount of the world, and at any request, pick up any other part/-s from one or more of the other nodes, and then pass on to you. And then, add in a few of these all around the world, so it doesn't load slow as heeeeeeeck when you're far from the servers. And the connection.. Well, 1Gbit fibre out probably isn't enough, you'd might have to look for like Opto-fiber or something. Cool project, but waaaaaaaaaaa-waaaaaaaaaaaa-waaaaaaaaaay to big for today's home technology. Vibrant_Viper 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Well I like the idea of map makers who would be inspired of these pictures from the various satellite images You could maybe make a smaller map, but with some new props and buildings.. Well I think a lot of new content will be made when the tools are released. (Or so I hope) Right now i just want some performance and current ingame system upgrades, before we get new content, but now i'm getting OT : )
Ronin13 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Quote[/b] ]Seems like someone really wants a specific map  It would be wise to start learning exactly what is required for such a project I have done maps before. Quote[/b] ]There is the age old saying "too many cooks spoil the broth" which would probably stand very true here. There is a huge amount of work which would need to be done, plus it all has to adhere to certain standards AND the artwork would all have to match in order to present an anywhere decent looking addon.Add to that the ever diluting tallent pool, as skilled people join other teams and projects, as well as the fact that we don't want everyone and anyone to join - bad experiences in the past have bolstered that train of thought. And you can see that its not a simple case of "getting more people to join the team to do the work" Just like the work its self, it is a complex situation to manage When someone work as a team he/she needs to place their personal egos and thirst of glory on the side. Yes there will be some people who will be better than others but nobody is perfect. Example: SJB = excellent weapons, RHS = excellent Tanks and INF, FDF = excellent Maps and vehicles, BAS = excellent choppers and set the standard (at least in the beginning). All of them are important as all of them members of a team. The important thing is to use people in the places where they exceed the standards. By the way I am asking you for MOGADISHU because that has been your Black Hawk Down theme since the beginning.  Not because I want it. ANIWAY IT WILL BE NICE TO FIND SOME REAL LIFE LOCATION IN ArmA TO PLAY WITH.
NoRailgunner 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Ronin13 you have nice ideas watching google maps still it is "dreaming of wishes". lot of people want first of all - ArmA with good performance and fewer bugs. oh yes and there have only little time and want to develop their own projects... Let me ask you 2 questions: 1. Why didn't you post in forum Addon & Mods:Discussion-Addon request thread? 2. Can youself develop an little good example of DGM in ArmA? Before you will "force" people into your dreamproject, eg Quote[/b] ]Forget about bringing BAS Tonal Island to ArmA.
fasad 1 Posted June 7, 2007 Quote[/b] ]ANIWAY IT WILL BE NICE TO FIND SOME REAL LIFE LOCATION IN ArmA TO PLAY WITH. My reasons not to try to recreate real locations : - ArmA's object density is too low to re-create real locations. The largest city size in ArmA is tiny compared to a small town in real life. - ArmA's maximum unit count. Sahrani is already too big to be realistically "populated". Empty places are unrealistic. - ArmA's limited object/art palette. New artwork requires a huge amount of work. - Scale. Real world is big. ArmA generally uses islands (although endless plain at edges is now supported, it breaks immersion). ArmA is best suited to a high number of small of places of interest, which tends not to happen in real life - you get single large places of interest. - Time. Recreating a real place takes longer than making it up. - Recognition/benefit. The percentage of users who would recognise and appreciate a realistic as possible terrain are very few. Even locals may not recognise your efforts due to restricted palettes/object count. - Imagination. Creating a real place limits mission makers to one campaign/plot scenario. Generic places are more versatile. I personally find it more rewarding to create something rather than re-create something. Having said all that, I think the best thing anyone interested in recreating a real place in ArmA could do now, would be start work on some new artwork. New terrain detail textures, new clutter objects, new buildings etc.
Ronin13 0 Posted June 7, 2007 @fasad Quote[/b] ]My reasons not to try to recreate real locations I like ArmA for the realism. For some people like you it may be boring but not for me and I know a lot of people who likes ArmA for that reason too. To recreate a real world location on a tactical map THAT IS REALISM not DREAMING like @NoRailgunner point it out. That it may be very hard and a challenge to do, YES. Ronin13 0 Posted June 7, 2007 Found these in Goggle Earth last night. Chechen country Mi24 or Mi17. Have you ever seen an airport exclusively for choppers? This is one of them at Fort Bragg. They have all of them. Pope AF Base A10s. I think the best ArmA addon is the A10. By the way the Arma A10 sounds like a real one, except from the distance. Russian Nuclear Submarine Base. They still have the power. JFKSWC, Fort Bragg. I tried to find the Delta Force installation but could not find it. Got lost in the woods. And the prettiest for the last. You know that one right? Hope you enjoyed them and feel free to add your own.

churnedfortaste 0 Posted June 8, 2007 It would be nice to see a map of london I think (probably after I die) we most likely will get detailed world maps into a game, but i doubt they would accurately account for everything, which in the distant future, would be cool to visit your house on an MMO war rpg, or maybe i'm just dreaming

There is technology to convert real objects in computer 3D images already, like an object scanner. It won’t be long until someone finds the way to scan an entire city to put it as a 3D image in a computer.
Ronin13 0 Posted June 8, 2007 ArmA new transparent water and swimming open new possibilities in the creation of naval warfare. Here are a few examples. Photos of PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii. Battleship. I know this is not Silent Hunter 4. Â AG Cruisers and Nuclear Submarines. Tomahawks or nuclear bombs anyone... Old WWII submarine. That is a museum people. A repair dock. They are repairing a nuclear submarine. I wonder why? F18s anyone for your Aircraft Carrier. Sorry that I could not find any photos of an Aircraft Carrier. Within the limits of the ArmA technology, what you want to do is not possible. Also, I fail to see how 3 pages of google earth shots constitutes an addon/mod discussion?
