imustkill 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Alright, awhile back when I first got ArmA everything sounded good & dandy on my old, cheap Audigy 2 Value that I have had for a couple of years. About two weeks ago the sound started to get SCP (snapping, crackling, and popping) in the sounds, it is especially bad when using a vehicle. Last week I got some new speakers...still had the issue with the same sound card. Today I got a X-Fi Fatal1ty Professional and it is still happening! I even tried onboard sound and I still had the problem. I've been playing with BIOS and Audio settings all day but I can't figure it out. Here are my specs: AMD64 X2 5200+ ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe (nForce 590 SLI MCP) 2gb DDR2 800 2 7950GTs 512mb in SLI 580W PSU Perhaps somebody else has had this issue and has found a workaround. I should also mention that this issue does not take place in any game with the exception of ArmA...which makes this even more strange to me.
-Puma- 2 Posted May 30, 2007 I had the same probs with my MSI NFORCE4 mobo, when i moved audigy 4 se to different pci slot. Bios update fixed this for me. (btw I got 1 loud pop, and volume went either too low or too loud)
imustkill 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Unfortunately I don't have another PCI slot to move it to, both graphics card cover the other up (after-market heatsinks). Here is something really weird. I enabled onboard sound in my BIOS, mind you I am still using my X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro here, and SCP is reduced a good bit. I'm going to try the BIOS update now, and thanks for your reply. imustkill 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Updated the BIOS and the problem still remains. I almost want to say it is OpenAL that is causing it. Simply because ArmA is the only game that I have issues with and ArmA is the only game on my PC that needs OpenAL...
DC69 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Yeah, I also have sound trouble however, mine usually involve the sound stopping completly, i.e. no vehicle noise, no gun shots and no bullet tap. I have an Audigy 2 ZS. These problems only seem to occur when there is a lot of action though, an example being the first main mission in the campaign (Ortego). It's really starting to annoy me now because its really hard to play when you don't know if you're being shot at or not! I have also upgraded the Open AL in my system to the latest version from their site and that has not helped either. Any one got any suggestions?
imustkill 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Alright I think I fixed it. What I did was I changed the name of the root executable of ArmA to "fear.exe" to fool my GPU drivers in thinking that I was running a SLI-optimized game. Now by some freak circumstance it also seems that it fixed my sound issues as well.
