ManDay 0 Posted May 27, 2007 In-Depth-Blurring doesnt seem to have such a major impact on performance - am I right? I dont have the beste box but blurring is still something it can manage. Wouldnt it be incredibly more realistic to blur always?! I mean: It looks absolutly awesome and it's just what you experience in real life .Beside the fact you have - due to the anatomy of the eye - a far more blurred and grayscaled view in the periphery of your sight. Pardon my english - sometimes i speak it very well - sometimes its horrible
ManDay 0 Posted May 27, 2007 Aw comon. 24 views and only one who did vote? What is this? Again a topic which concerns a "too technical" issue of the game. Comon it's simple: Recognize what your real sight looks like - you can only focus one thing at the same time. Far away from what you focus there everything is blurred, isnt it? ColonelSandersLite 0 Posted May 27, 2007 I'm sorry dude, if you're vision is that blurry at 300 yards, you need glasses. See an optometrist.
Maddmatt 1 Posted May 27, 2007 I think the fact that you can only focus on one part of the screen at a time is enough, so I'd rather leave it as it is. The simulated vision you get on a PC monitor is already far worse than what you get in real life. That's why we have the zoom ability in ArmA - to try to compensate for that. The DOF when looking through sights in ArmA needs some tweaking though, it doesn't always focus on what's in the centre. Like if a person is standing just to the side of what you are aiming at, it will focus on him and make your distant target blurry.
Spokesperson 0 Posted May 27, 2007 I ONLY like the iron-sight Depth of Field blurring/focus. Because you seldom look outside your sights in that situation. And bushes close by get blurred away (they dont interfere that much then). But when it comes to standard blur (in all other situations), it just make me feel something isn't right with either my vision or with the game. There's no sharpness at all. And I can't play having it like that for hours. The eyes attempt to focus or sharpen the pic and after a while it makes you need glasses for real. Besides the "View Angle" is much smaller than the one you got in real life. 170 degrees or something. So there's no need for blurring there. There are dots at the borders (should flash a little - because you don't notice them), that indicate movements etc.
bravo 6 0 Posted May 27, 2007 maybe they should keep as it is ATM..
BVE 0 Posted May 27, 2007 I totally agree with spokesperson. I cant play with the posteffect on. My eyes start doing crazy, and i dont even like the way the game looks like then, i prefer to have the posteffect on Low. Looks much better

Comon it's simple:Recognize what your real sight looks like - you can only focus one thing at the same time. Far away from what you focus there everything is blurred, isnt it? Exactly! In real, you can focus only on one thing at a time. In game, you cannot focus at all, so the answer is: bad idea. I hate it when i see any blur in any game - it's annoying and restrictive because you can't see where you want to, it's not even realistic because in RL your vision is clear, i allways see what i want (provided that it is not too far away - but then again, it isn't blured, it only lacks the details). If your vision is blured, then there really is something wrong with your eyes (no ofense). EDIT: sorry, i missed the word "peripheral", so my reply doesn't aply to this. But as someone other stated before - in the game you get much smaller field of view than in RL, so it seems counterproductive to mutilate this view even more with any blur effects. ManDay 0 Posted May 27, 2007 Fellow OFP-Players please dont mistake that Blurring for "just blurring" there is nothing wrong with my eyes. you know that... DOF = Depth Of Field (equals Z-Buffer driven Effect) so there is always a certain amount of blur in your sight. know what? i think all of you are so scared of this because ye associate the 'blurring' with what you know from the cutscenes: hardly able to see anything but the layer you focus on. but that doesnt have to be. not such an AGRRESIVE way of blurring - more decent. this will make evrything look a bit nicer. heard of crysis? if arma is not the first game which will introduce it - then crysis will be. Spokesperson 0 Posted May 27, 2007 So what. What you're saying is that DOF requires blur. We don't want blur => we don't want DOF. (ok for iron sights but nothing more).
frederf 0 Posted May 28, 2007 I am annoyed that the DoF effect assumes where my eyes are focusing. I'm trying to look through a M16's ironsight and the damn countryside is blurred!!! You know why? Because there's a blade of grass in front of my gun and it's automatically forcing my eyes for focus on it instead of the people shooting me!
