Apocalypse87 0 Posted December 20, 2001 Well I was just wondering is it worth getting Win XP for Operation Flashpoint ... I hear about many problems with Win XP and Op Flash ... Is it true that with Win XP you cant host? someone please confirm as i enjoy hosting. I have windows 98 at the moment PIII 733 mhgz, 128 mb ram (looking at upgrading very soon), Winfast GeForce 2 MX display Adapter yeah that stuff ... So is it worth getting Win XP to use with Op Flash?(Playing op flash is what i mainly do)
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 20, 2001 The problem with Windows XP and OFP is that it installs both the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) components by default. The former is a problem even with older versions of Windows, and can be turned off. The later can be turned off and/or replaced with a more useful program like ZoneAlarm, or it can be configured to open the ports used by DirectPlay and OFP. I would not get XP until you have more memory, 256MB would be a reasonable minimum, but I'd get more -- it is cheap right now, but prices are heading back up. Apocalypse87 0 Posted December 20, 2001 Great, thank you for your reply. I have ZoneAlarm at the moment and like it alot. I'll try getting more memory as soon as possible, if anyone else has more comments about winXP please post, i would like to hear
MrJJ 0 Posted December 20, 2001 I have a problem with my computer, i don't know if it has to do with XP.... Everytime the 30mm and the 25mm cannon shoots my sound gets slower, it's pitching down. I think it's XP, but i'm not sure......

HappyG 0 Posted December 20, 2001 Im running OFP on WinXP without any problems. But keep in mind, that 192MB of RAM is minimum for XP.
Apocalypse87 0 Posted December 20, 2001 I was just playing a game on an Op Flash dedi server was talking about Win XP there and someone bought up the point that having more than 256 memory can actually slow down your computer at times because it takes longer to find the file (something like that) is this true? (sorry, im not to good with computers so i just need some help)
Gamer 10 Posted December 20, 2001 lol......... dont belive everything you hear.... 256 will be a nice improvement over what you have..... but in my opinion 384-512mb is a very confortable area.... you should have very little if any swap file usage........I would recommend at least 256 if your gonna run XP. and more mem if you can afford it..... the game will only use up to 256mb max... but you should keep in mind your Operating System needs ram too (Win XP) as well as anything else you might have running at the same time (voice programs ..ect.) Morph 0 Posted December 20, 2001 What about the rumours that the so called firewall actually enables Microsoft to scan your registry and do all sorts of other sneaky things to see if you have illegal software on your machine? All rumours of course I'll stick with Win2k thank you very much!
Gamer 10 Posted December 20, 2001 Yeah and when I installed XP something really strange happened..... Monkey's flew outta my butt.
Morph 0 Posted December 20, 2001 Wow.. That's odd.. I never knew you needed Xp for that? lol
suchey 0 Posted December 21, 2001 I have XP home edition here and XP Pro at work...OFP runs great on both...no problems. It seems to be a very stable OS and I havnet had problem one yet...it also seemed to speed up the load time of OFP and got rid of the "slow-down" with the laptop graphic in game. If you have the cash to spend and dont already have Win 2k...XP is a nice update.
medalian1 0 Posted December 21, 2001 If you have Win2K I wouldn't worry with the upgrade. I unfortunately couldn't find a working copy of Win2K and was stuck with WinME until I found WinXP. This OS has been great except for DOS. A lot of Keygen and crack/patch programs run in DOS which I can't do anymore unless someone knows a work-around or something. So besides that, and the $hitty Direct CD (Roxie/Adaptec) cd burning software which is included with XP, I've been a happy user. The gimmick with the activation and re-activation is avoidable with a Corperate Pro edition.
