IS there an international scoring systeM? or does (or can) every nation have their own method?... that would be interesting. of those 3 links only the norway newspaper ranks Norway (its own country) obove the US.. the rest list the US at the top<span id='postcolor'> So, explain this then: How can Austria be ranked higher than Germany (Germ: 3 gold, 5 silver, 1 bronze - Aut: 1 gold, 1 silver, 7 bronze). <span id='postcolor'> Dude, Austria is listed first because it's alphabetical after number of medals. It's not a ranking, it's sorted by Total Medals then by alphabetical listing.

It's too easy to misunderstand After all - wouldn't it be more logical to put the leader first?

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 14, 2002 hey Wobbkle, isnt is funny that US in some country is called Yhdysvallat. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome the president of the United States of Yhdysvallat!"
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 14, 2002 You don't need the United States, because Yhdysvallat is United States in Finnish in front. And I voted for Finland because we will!
Guest Scooby Posted February 14, 2002 And if we wont, which is most likely atleast we put up a good fight. Especially when compared our success to amount of population we've got.
jaxx 0 Posted February 14, 2002 Wow - you didn't lose yet and you're already making excuses. Is it in your genes?
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 14, 2002 Haha, Finland got another medal yesterday About the scoring system... 1st-8 points 2nd-7 points 3rd-6 points 4th-5 points 5th-4 points 6th-3 points 7th-2 points 8th-1 point
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 14, 2002 There was only one who voted for Austria. I dont think that they will lead the statistic one day, but they sure gona be ahead of many countries (including Finland). Dont forget, they always win everything that has to do with skiing. I keep on asking myself why norway is so much stronger than all the other nordic countries. The country may be huge but the population is tiny! Maybe it is because of the reason that Norway is little urbanised (and of course it is rich)!
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 14, 2002 Norway is probably strong in alpine skiing because they have lots of mountains to practise in.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 14, 2002 But they arent, they are especially good in "Langlauf" (how to translate that hmmmmmm... its like horizontal skiing, like Tele-mark). There they apear unbeatable.
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 14, 2002 Do you mean ski jumping? If yes you must have been mistaken because Norway's whole ski jumping team is a joke.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 14, 2002 No, not ski-jumping, I mean like Telemark, It is like skiing but it doesnt just go downhill, it goes uphill, downhill and on the straight, through forests, over fields, most are long distance.(during Biathlon they use small-calibre guns and they have to shoot five targets, if they dont get the target they need to run 150m penalty). Was that a better explanation
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 14, 2002 Oh you mean cross-country. Finland used to be good in it until Lahti 2001

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 25, 2002 Oooooohhh, that little tiny country (in terms of population) Norway did pretty well! Â Â And I bet this very very good croos-country sports-fellow is gonna become the new national hero (besides Kronprinsesse Mette-Marit and kronprins Haakon). Unfortunately the only thing that destroyes the Olympic glory once again are those chemical-brothers that aimed for steroid based sucess. Kick them out (for years). [worship mode] bless the gods of the Olymp !!!! See you in four years........... by the way, where?
