Unit selection in 'Tactical command mode'

Recommended Posts

I can get to the tactical view, fine. But cant seem to select , multiple units for actions. What key commands are used for this (used to be Shift & Fire for multiple units in OPF)

Thanks

Use the F keys. I believe its F1-F8 with F9 & F10 to page left and right on the bottom bar (I don't usually have more than 5 people in any of my squads so I'm not 100% on that).

You're trying to click select them in the tac view? Hmm, I always use the F-keys.

In the tactical view, I think you can also select them by dragging the cursor over them while holding the left mouse button, just like in a rts game. The green square indicating what you select is a bit of, but seems to work fine otherwise.

He wants to modify his selection using shift+click or ctrl+click, if I remember right was in OFP. Haven't tried with ArmA.

Hehe, yeah, was afraid that I didn't exactly get the problem, but I thought it never hurts to write such things as threads like these usually tend to attract other people with problems regarding commanding. If anyone didn't know it yet, I'm happy.

Couldn't manage to add more units to the selection in ArmA myself without using the F-keys and have to say that ctrl+left click probably would be the most logical solution as it's used in a similar manner when handling files in windows. Shift+left click could be used to add all the units between the one first selected and the newly selected one (like Unit 3 selected and shift-click on Unit 6 selects all units from 3 to 6), yet again, just like windows does.

I also haven't yet found a way to select the assigned colored squads in the command view. It's easy if not using the tactical view itself but the press space bar technique and it also works once when entering the tactical view, but what after that? I hope I just haven't tried enough.

Exactly.

Take a look at the short video of OPF, Here

It called 'Taking command of your AI'. Scroll forward to 4mins into the video.

It demonstrates how effective it can be to select multiple units, and command them.

Not only the selection is awkward, but have you noticed, when commanding a large group, if you send off a small team from that group then they do not make a sensible formation, and leave a gap in you main formation where they once were?

If the soldiers you select were scattered in the original formation, then the formation they adopt when alone is based on their original posisitions, NOT on their new sub-team team-status.

This really needs to be fixed as it makes command + movement orders a bit of a joke when the soldiers you send out are unable to work as a team together.

edit: Different sub-teams should also be able to adopt a different formation than the main group too.

totally agree.

worst if in extended line and break off two teams.

you end up with some on extreme right and some on extreme left and they can't support each other.
