Why did BIS remove this feature?

Recommended Posts

I got the U.S. version a week ago and after playing ofp on the pc and OFP Elite on the X-Box I realized something was missing from the squad command menu. There's no option to select team blue, team red, or team green as a whole with the click of a button. For example if I assign 3 AT soldiers in my squad to team blue so they can deal with tanks, there is no way to select team blue all together with one click of the mouse. If I see a tank I don't want to have to select them all(ex. F3, F5, F7) then select engange the tank, I want to select team blue(no need to use F keys) then select engage the tank. This was possible in OFP and Elite making engagments much more fluid. And now that you can command squads bigger than 12 it makes me miss this command even more. So is this feature going to be included in a future patch?

Just hold down the space bar (default) and use the mouse wheel to select the different teams. They should be at the top of the menu.

I hope this helps.

I don't know why, it makes no sence to me but I use the following as a workround:

Option 1: Press space and hold- you should now see the team menu option (as in OFP).

Option 2: If Unit 2 (e.g) is part of team red (e.g) press and hold Shift and F2 this will select all units in that team, the only problem is once you let go os Shift & F2 they will deselect, therfore you must issue commands 1,6 (e.g) (Stop) with the Shift & F2 key held, again I think you have to do the same with option 1.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the replies guys. But I still think it was much more fluid before. It's annoying to use the spacebar because once you let go the team is de-selected, so there is no way to use number orders, just point and click. The hold shift one is much better but still not as great as the original. But I guess I can just learn to live with it.

I incidentally heartily agree with this. The original OFP-system (which also had more colours, which is SO much more in need now that you can have squads with over 12 people) was extremely easy to use and intuitive.

And not everyone has a mouse wheel on their mouse, as incredible as that may seem. Mine is borked anyway >_<

No-one else finds the lack of this feature a bit bothersome?

You're not the only one, and I think it's a PITA to use the spacebar as well. I used the team-colors all the time when playing CTI in OFP... made squads tasked with different objectives far more manageable...

You don't need to do the 'hold space bar' thing. Just press shift + the F-key for a squad member, it will then select everyone in that team and you can command them normally.

Good tip! Never knew!

While I as of yet cannot run ArmA [don't have a WinXP machine up yet], I cannot imagine NOT having the original OFP color coding system for teams as it was working quite well.

I, in absence of actually playing ArmA as of yet, would agree it is a feature I would want at least to have the OPTION of using 'pre-Qued' and 'single-keyed' as it was in OFP originally.

I see the mechanics of how it works now in ArmA and see that it is much more limiting than its original implementation in OFP.

**goes back to playing FFUR OFP sans the SLX upgrade, since thats not MP compatible at all**

It would help matters greatly if it didn't de-select once you let go of the space-bar. Keep 'em selected would be much better.

ctrl+f1-Fn would be a good idea if it could be done instead as quick-shortcut keys to colour teams.

That shift+Fn quick-slect works fine only if you have 11 or less troops, once you get into commanding 30 or 40 guys the shift+Fn ain't so simple to use....
