Student Pilot 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Ok, I just bought ArmA today and was eagerly looking forward to playing it. Â Installation went without a hitch, but the game won't even load. Â I get the following error message upon startup: My specs are as follows: 2.00 GHz CPU NVidia GeForce 2, driver version 6.14.10.4482, 28 mb Intel AC '97 Audio Controller, driver version 5.10.0.7144 512 mb RAM ArmA English V1.06 Direct X 9.0 I'm guessing that my graphics card isn't up to snuff, but I'd like confirmation as I'm kind of stupid when it comes to hardware. Thanks for any help.
Metal-SOB- 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Guess u try to run it on a Laptop with shared memory, 28mb is not enough, if you can set it to 128 in BIOS it might work, but My guess is that you then will run low on RAM, put it on a stationary that have enough RAM and a graf card that fit the game (128mb according to gamespec bu I would't reccomend anything below 256mb for grafic card), u can use the LAP for a dedicated server tho, since it does not requier any grafic card at all to run in servermode. Does anyone know what laptop graphics cards will work with ArmA so I can start shopping in advance? (yeah, I know laptops aren't meant for gaming, but being in college means a laptop is more useful to me than a desktop) Thanks for the replies so far. Student Pilot 0 Posted May 14, 2007 haha, yeah, the laptop is getting up in years.  But it played OFP just fine, and I didn't even know what my graphics card was until I bought ArmA and has this trouble.  Maybe a new computer is in order... EDIT: Quick question, is an ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory graphics card compatible with ArmA?
-SWAF-Lunatic 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Any Nvidia/ATI with dedicated memory should work ok. When you start looking at shared memory the performance drops considerably. X700 or the go series 7000+ would all work. My hint to you though is read the specs on the box!
Student Pilot 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Uh, "dedicated memory"..."shared memory"? Could someone enlighten a n00b on what these mean? Thanks for everyone's help, I appreciate it
Metal-SOB- 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Uh, "dedicated memory"..."shared memory"?  Could someone enlighten a n00b on what these mean? Thanks for everyone's help, I appreciate it Dedicated memory is when you either have a seperate grafic card in your computer or whith a onboard card that have it's own memoryslots. Shared is when the onboard grafic card sharing the RAM memory. The latter is the worst  you can have in performance way, no matter what the commersial mumbojumbo the  salesman say's. Min req for a LAP to play games, seperate grafic card with at least 256mb, 3Ghz processor and 1Gb Ram. ATI or NVidia, is just a matter of taste IMHO Good luck edit duoble quote

Student Pilot 0 Posted August 8, 2007 Ok, quick question here. I know this thread is old, but I didn't know if I should start a new one (and clutter up the boards) or just get my question answered here. I'm looking at a new laptop, as my old one finally gave up the ghost. As I want to be able to run ArmA with it (yeah, I know, laptops aren't meant for gaming...) I am trying to make sure I get a compatible graphics card with the laptop. The laptop I am looking at has an Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. As previous Intel cards have seemed to be incompatible with ArmA, I have my doubts if this one will work. Can anyone tell me if this card will work with ArmA? I can spend another $90 or so and upgrade to a card that will probably work, but if I can help it I would rather go the cheaper route (being in college and having few funds and all). Thanks for anyone's help. -Pilot
Bergmania 0 Posted August 8, 2007 The Intel 82G965 is most likely to weak to handle Arma, Intel have a Game Compability Page and stuff like Doom3 and HalfLife2 are listed as playable but with low framerates Company of hero's is listed as unplayable.. So my best guess would be Arma is unplayable on the X3100
frogg 0 Posted August 8, 2007 The game will probably load on that gfx chip, but would not be playable in any way Probably best to steer clear of Intel Gfx Chips, and look at a laptop with a ATI or Nvidia Chip, with dedicated memory of course. What was the $90 upgrade too? It may be that you have to go that way. But make sure you let us know what it is so we can let you know if it will work

Thanks for all the help, it's really appreciated from a graphics card n00b like me. -Pilot
