pete10 0 Posted May 3, 2007 can sombody explain tp me in very simple terms how i download an addon? i downloaded the chopper package the other day with the apache and chinook but can't get it to actually work. i'm no computer genius, so most basic steps would be appreciated. would love to download the US marines skins, but wouldn't have a clue how to actually get it running. i bought this game off the shelf in austraila about 2 months ago. cheers. sv5000 127 Posted May 3, 2007 Hi mate the very easy way of doing it would be to extract the *.pbo files into your addons directory in your arma folder. if you go into explorer and look inside your (default) C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA you should see a folder called addons. Place the extracted files for your d/l into this folder and make sure that if you extracted the file directly to the addons folder that it did not create an extra folder inside your existing addon folder. I hope this makes sense
max power 21 Posted May 3, 2007 This can clutter up your addons directory. If you find later that you would like to organize everything, you can *usually* put addons in their own little addon folder, and then call them in a command line switch. In C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA you can make a new folder and call it anything you wish. Let's call it @pete10. If you put the @ in front of it it will stand out from the BIS 'stock' directories. So now you have C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\@Pete10 Everything in this directory will act as if it's in C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\ This may seem a little confusing but you don't really need to understand it to use it. If the above is true, you can then make a directory called AddOns. Everything in C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\@Pete10\AddOns will act like they are in C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\AddOns So, you can dump all your extra addons into C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\@Pete10\AddOns and then call ArmA to load that directory by putting in -mod=@Pete10 in the ArmA shortcut in the target box. Find your ArmA shortcut, right click on it, and enter properties. In the target field, you should see a string like: "D:\Program files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe" Add -mod=@Pete10 after the quotes so it looks like: "D:\Program files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\arma.exe" -mod=@Pete10 Then the program will load your addons only when you want it to (when that switch is present), and you don't have to mess up your stock AddOns directory. Use this information if you feel comfortable with it. If you have any questions, just ask. If you don't feel comfortable with this method, don't bother with it. This post will still be here later if you wish to refer back to it at some point.

pete10 0 Posted May 3, 2007 sorry. i'm a bit of a luddite. so once i've downloaded the file and placed it in the addons file, i should be able to use the new equipment straight away in mission editor? apologies again for my ignorance.
pete10 0 Posted May 3, 2007 hmmm. doesn't seem to be working. so i should just start up the game as normal, go into mission editor and the apache and chinook should be an option under bluefor air?
CanadianTerror 0 Posted May 3, 2007 Yes. Wait, did you unrar/unzip it? Its in pbo form when you put it in?

CanadianTerror 0 Posted May 3, 2007 Dload winrar (just google it) use that to open the .rar file this will leave you with a .pbo (the addon itself) Put that in your addons folder
Broomy89 0 Posted May 3, 2007 Well this is how i do it. 1. Download Winrar. 2.install it. 3.Download the desired Addon and save to C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\AddOns. 4.go into the addons folder and you should see the rar. file(looks like three books stacked ontop of eachother). 5.Right click on the rar. file and click on "extract here". 6.You should then see the pbo. file appear, and the installation is complete. 7.Run the game, open the editor and you should your addons. ps. sometimes multiple addons are extracted and grouped into a seperate folder, open this and place the pbo.files along with all the other ones. Hope this helps mate
