d-day missions

but it is big big problem

i tried to make mission like d-day, desant of troops from the boats

but in ARMA it is still impossible

before patch boats were not lading out soldiers on beach

they were returning to the middle of sea and then soldiers were put to the water and start swim without weapons

after patch some soldier get out near beach, the have weapons, they can start attack

but commander of group stays in water and he orders "back to formation"

they all back into formation and AI start to swim, of course they loose weapons

or some of them

finally they reach beach with empty hands

this is a problem and don't close such topics moderators !

this is sirious problem that in game you loose weapons after 30 seconds, because sometimes AI gest off water after 40, so if this time was longer, D-Day mission could be possible without any scripting, just using waypoints in editor

in OFP boats were loading all soldiers on dry land, there was no problem with unarmed desant

ARMA is advertised as "the best battlefield simulator' but what kind of simulator is this if i can't do mission in which soldiers attack enemy territory tranported by boats, than what for are those boats ?

useless ?

With the latest patch (the beta) they do get out on the beach.

When you say: "After patch, some soldiers do get out near beach" which patch do you mean? If you mean the beta patch then perhaps there's a fault in how you placed the waypoints or something because the mission I've been working on for the last few days has many boats unloading troops onto a beach and not a single soldiers gets stuck (beta patch).

of course i use 1.05 +

soldiers do get out on beach, but commander gets in to the water and orders them back

mission is simple

boat, few soldiers with property "in cargo" (boat driver is "number one", he can be default boat crew or officer with "this moveindriver boat1" )

first waypoint "get out"

second waypoint "go to"

2 waypoint, one boat, 4-6 soldiers, tested on some beaches (not one place)

always the same situation

some soldiers not loose weapons, some loose when they get order "back in to the form."

i have the same problem...

even with the beta patch boats start to unload out in the sea and dont even go close to the beach... so the troops have to swim and ofcourse, then they drop their weapons...

totally useless now..

my soultion is to skip the boats and use helicopters that unload at the beach instead...

but thats not the way i want it...

but im positive that bis will fix this problem at some stage...

hopefully they do as in OFP, let the boats unload at the beach or remove the "drop weapon in water" feature.

i know they want to simulate that soldiers drop their equipment so they dont get dragged down in the water and drowns..

but thats not realistic either... professional soldiers do have one way or another to transport their personal gear while swimming...

usually by using their backpacks as a raft for the gear (they put a plastic bag in the backpacks and seals it so that it contains enough air to make the backpack float and then they push it infront of them in the water with the gear on top of it so that it dont get wet), and that is if they have to cross a river or similar...

if they are "assaulting" from a zodiac they will get out close enough to the beach so they dont have to swim...

and if they do they can still use the backpack "raft" solution.

so i personally dont understand why they need to drop their weapons at all...

my mission is in 1944 (Nazi Lahtani vs. US)

the only solution that i see is place soldiers on land, near them empty boats and that will start mission :/

but i causes that we cannot do mission with fights on beach (boats are swiming and detroying MG42 positions)

I just opened the editor for a quick test. 1 boat (RHIB with 2 turrets) and a 7 man squad. The boat and the squad were not grouped. The boat had waypoint "transport unload" and the squad had waypoit "get out" at the beach, both waypoints synchronized and placed on the shore about 5m from the water. (This was south of Tiberia on South Sahrani). I played as a soldier on the beach to watch what they did.

With beta patch: The boat went near the shore and dropped the squad off perfectly. If the waypoint was closer to the water then they would swim a bit but reach the shore within 3 seconds so no weapons were lost. Afterwards the squad went to their next waypoint and the boat went to it's own next waypoint.

With normal 1.05: The boat didn't even go near the shore! The squad jumped into the ocean and swam, losing their weapons.

I will try doing a mass beach landing so see how the beta patch handles that. I'm sure you will have the occasional AI that swims in the water for too long so the "save your weapons" script should probably be used once on the AI as a precaution.

i made mission like officer "this moveindriver BOAT_1"

rest 'this moveincargo"

obejctive was that all soldiers get out from boat

maybe when soldiers are just load they behave in another way, than when driver is commander of team

he stays in water and orders them to be back o him

I set up a simple "D-Day-type" beach assault. It will need the beta patch otherwise everyone just gets dumped in the ocean. I used the "save weapons" script because some AI (sometimes player too) get dropped off in the ocean a few metres away from the shore, the AI can be too slow and lose their weapons. I only set the script to loop once, so you can't go back into the water and have your weapons saved again. The boats are in the same group as the soldiers so the crew also get out and join the assault.

I could change it so that the boats are in a seperate group and drive away after dropping the troops off, it's just that it requires more work whistle.gif Maybe later.

If anyone wants it as an example to set up a beach assault, just ask me.
