Beagle 684 Posted April 15, 2007 Yeah, the point where they get Ma Deuce is... well, you really need MANY bricks to be safe. About the "M107 the tank killer" thingy... well I recall some (USMC?) snipers destroying a BMP with 2 shots, but I'm not sure whether even a DU penetrator could go through a fairly modern (past WW2) MBT, unless shot in a less armored spot, engine block mainly; BMP is made out of aluminum anyways and has only few inches of armor. BMP-2 is made of welded armour steel, something ranging from 23-33mm. M113 is the APC made from Aluminum.
BlackScorpion 0 Posted April 15, 2007 Ach, mixed with BMD (which initially had magnesium armor btw ). Well 33mm (about 1.5 inches) still isn't that much, .50 cal SLAP will easily penetrate 1 inch block of RHA, and the Mk 211 Raufoss round shot through every target USMC threw at it in the terminal ballistics demonstration video, including a 600-pound (doesn't say much, but still alot of steel) and 3-inch thick manhole covers... desertfox 2 Posted April 15, 2007 The actual penetration capability of 0.50 CAL gauges is around 34mm steel. This particular chart is for the 0.50 Machinegun, but the Barret should be similar, unless the muzzle velocity is way higher. Chart EDIT: Image too big. spm1138 0 Posted April 15, 2007 I think there hasn't been a real anti-tank rifle for quite some time. As I understand it anti-material rifles have basically always lagged behind state of the art tank armour. Even the beefiest AMR (chambered for 20*110mm Hispano cannon rounds) I can think of is really only up to reportedly blinding a tank by destroying external equipment on it. The rifles in ArmA should probably be up to damaging an APC, destroying a car/trucks engine block, damaging aircraft on the run-way. If there were working antenna / radar / other sensors ingame they'd be applicable to those too. Fuel dumps and Ammo crates maybe? It'd be nice if the big rifles did damage some of the vehicles more. It'd also be nice if they had zeroable scopes.
