Guest RKSL-Rock Posted April 6, 2007 First of all this isnt my system... It a clan mates. E6600 2Gb 800mhz X1950XTX 512mb Crossfire and Vista Home Premium And hes ISP is Blueyonder/Virgin Media (UK). We've tried using the ingame/gamespy browser and direct connect but it comes up with the "Connecting Failed". Now we've switched off the firewall, and tried different servers on different ISPs to no luck. Â Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know of a fix? Guest RKSL-Rock Posted April 6, 2007 Ports opened on router? Gone into DMZ on firewall?Does he get to see the list of servers? Or does it always fail when he clicks on a server? Its on a direct cable modem (USB) with no firewall or anything built in and we've disabled Windows firewall and Kaspersky. Â After all that it still fails. But he does get the list of servers, he can click to join and it takes a second, then says "Connecting Failed".
jasono 0 Posted April 6, 2007 My friend has Virgin Media as his ISP and Vista Home premium. He plays fine. I'm also with Virgin. Vista is known to not cause MP problems if setup correctly Your ISP will pretty much not have anything to do with online gaming problems. Make sure that you have the ports in your firewall unblocked: Default are 2302,2303,2305. Also, in the multiplayer server browser the server has an icon to the left of it's name. Is this green when you try and connect? Also is the ping low ? UPDATE : My clan friend just had this problem. He removed custom sounds (.ogg sounds in username folder) and it let him on. Guest RKSL-Rock Posted April 9, 2007 I got this exact same problem....did you ever get sorted out? Nope, I'm off up to Edinburgh in a few weeks to install XP. Â I've come to the conclusion that anyone who expects to play gameson VISTA is mad. If anyone knows of a fix let me know before the end of April. Â Save me pain of an Easyjet flight. L3dZ3P 0 Posted April 9, 2007 Well I just managed to get mine fixed by opening command console and entering: netsh winsock reset then restarted pc an everything worked fine Taken from BI Community Wiki " Can't connect on servers - Every attempt to connect to a server fails with an error message saying that the attempt to connect failed." Solution Execute netsh winsock reset with cmd. Worked a treat for me an I hope it does same for you...let me know how u go:)

Virgin media Blueyonder NTL USb modems cause more arseache then VISTA and the 8800 combined. take said cable modem throw at wall. buy a Netgear Router, plug in enthernet cable from cable box. If cable modem does not have ethernet out ring virgin and swear at them till they send one. NT Hell drivers are aweful, you dont need them if you let a nice router act as a hardwear firewall and hub then just plug your PC in. i recommend Netgear as they are idiot proof to set up with Bt adsl or NTL/blueyonder/Virgin cable. Also note some people have problems with MP if they have a nvidia firewall running with a nforce mobo, a workaround is to disable it and go back to windows firewall. Guest RKSL-Rock Posted April 11, 2007 Well, having tried all suggested fixes (short of changing ISP's) it looks like i'm off to Edinburgh in the near future, clutching a Windows XP disc and a box full of install discs. Virgin media Blueyonder NTL USb modems cause more arseache then VISTA and the 8800 combined.take said cable modem throw at wall. buy a Netgear Router, Â plug in enthernet cable from cable box. There is no cable box, just a cable and a modem. Â As for the Netgear Router, I have one handy but having spent quite a few hours reserching this problem I keep coming back to VISTA. Also note some people have problems with MP if they have a nvidia firewall running with a nforce mobo, Â a workaround is to disable it and go back to windows firewall. As I'm not exactly new to this, but my mate is admittedly, Ive been right into the deepest reaches of his PC that "remote assist" will let me visit and there is no windows/Nvidia/Kaspersky or Voodoo firewall running. I've even had another friend install ArmA & Vista on his PC and it did exactly the same thing for him on a BT line! So VISTA seems to be the common culprit. Â After long (Ok about 2 mins) and careful consideration I've come to the conclusion that Vista is shit and i'm going to have sqeeze my arse into a tiny Easyjet seat to rid my mate of the curse of Vista. If I come back with a dodgy accent and wearing a kilt im sueing Microshat and BIS! Â
