Banzai! 0 Posted April 4, 2007 When I go to fly any chopper it wobbles all over the place. Level flight is almost impossible. I feel like Durant in Black Hawk Down after he gets clipped by the RPG and complains of vibration in the pedals, before his BH spins violently out of control and crashes (which is inevitably the outcome with me). I don't understand. Why is this? And don't say its another FADE-related bug. You guys excuse everything by saying its FADE. BI has a seagull fetish, get over it. b1sh0p 0 Posted April 4, 2007 It takes practice, and a good joystick. I have yet to see anyone who can fly the choppers well with the mouse, I think it's impossible. After just a few hours of practice offline I was setting littlebirds down in streets and on top of small buildings without even using autohover. Practice. And a joystick... TrackIR helps too. max power 21 Posted April 4, 2007 I don't think that the key-mouse thing is impossible.. I've heard others say it's actually not bad once you get used to it. Whatever control scheme you're using, just be gentle and plan out where you want to go before you execute a maneover.
GAU-8 0 Posted April 4, 2007 tons of practice. and i mean lots of it. if you want to just "fly it" not so much so. but if you want to be profficient with it..much more. you cant simply just "fly in fast, and extract troops" like an angel. two things of biggest importance, i feel.... 1. practice makes perfect. 2. first comes SMOOTH, then comes FAST. you cant quickly get the ropes of something if you cant get it done right when performed smoothly. dont give up. vicefredav 0 Posted April 4, 2007 I have no problems with the choppers except for the fact that they don't wanna turn left or right at high speeds (only banking). I don't understand why BI would do this. I can fly in between buildings and make precision landings with the mouse and keyboard and practice is always good, but why take out an essential part of flight physics and then ask u to practice to compensate for it. You can even see the chopper trying to turn left or right a little bit but not all the way. makes no sense to me at all. After OFP i was waiting for a next gen engine to properly simulate heli physics. No soup from cryengine or source, ArmA is getting me a little worried. I'm sure they will pin it down in the future tho.

Silly question but you have installed the Arma_InternationalUpdate105.zip? I had same problem before but now birds fly pretty good and I only use keyboard. I'm sure they will pin it down in the future tho. what makes you say this is unrealistic? if you have real helicopter piloting experience then i will of course defer to you, but from what i've read on the subject, as well as from the way MS Flight Simulator handles them, heli's DON'T like to yaw fast in forward flight. They're aerodynamically designed to want to orient themselves in the direction of travel. in fact, you CAN turn at high speeds, but it requires a proper bank and collective adjustment to do it smoothly. i think ArmA is actually kind of forgiving in this aspect.. the choppers fly backwards and at reverse obliques very easily, much more so than the way such is made out to be in MS flight sim. again, i don't know squat from flying real helicopters though; i have no such experience :\
Stugwi 0 Posted April 4, 2007 It must be PRACTISE! I used to play flight sims way back over 10 years ago. I never used a joystick and was younger then i don't understand when I hear others complain how hard it is flying choppers. It is not that difficult flying with keyboard Practise makes perfect Don't give up after a couple of crashes and blame it on BIS or lack of a big stick When u fly a chopper ur kinda of always looking 1 step ahead of the achieved manouver because it reacts slower.
