cant register to log an 8800 vista etc error

Recommended Posts

Hey all

Well as the description says, I cant register on the bug tracker to log an error as there doesnt seem to be a register button where its meant to be!

Now in this forum there is a lot of noise about the problems us vista drivers are having with our shiny new 8800 cards, (degrading textures, white fog (seriously i just thought sahrani had a polution problem), wildly varying frame rates, slow frame rates compared to other new games eg stalker, 100fps on max, arma 25 fps on max???)

oh and apparently our dual processors may be causing issues too?

Not to mention the 1.05 patch crashing our otherwise crash-free 1.04 rigs back to the stone age every 5 minutes unless we politely ask our machines to whoa there, and apply the 512 maxmem choke-chain.

so my question is, if you have any of the above problems, have you registered them on the bug tracker, and if so, any reply or acknowledgment from BIS that they are looking into it? ie have BIS said, or indeed could they say;

'Hi there 8800 owners, yes we know you love your pretty new cards, but sorry arma gets along with 8800s like borat gets along with your average american, they just arent speaking the same language, - but dont worry, we are looking into it, and the issues such as (insert issues here) are being taken care of' (or words to that effect)

(before you ask, yep i have searched the bugtracker, but there dont appear to be detailed bugs already reported for the above issues)

so whats the story all? any thoughts?

cheers,

Kiwi.

x2 4600 dual processor

2 gig corsaire (pretty quick cant remember the number) RAM

8800 GTS (runs STALKER pretty good, - cant handle vista poker though....)

Vista Ulitmate (without the poker game - see above) pistols.gif

About running ArmA on the new Vista OS, BIS has only

acknowleged, that there could be problems. (and temp fixes,

like the one you mentioned)

Vista OS is not directly supported by ArmA as of yet.

That is as far as I know, nothing more. If there are other,

newer official statements, I do not know about. If it can be

patched, to fully support Vista OS, I also dont know.

On the box, only Xp is stated as officially supported.

I'm sorry, cant offer more for now..so please consider

this answer as one of many. Also, you maybe want to read this:

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=60071

and that:

http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=60235

8800 cards are new technology as well with complete

new internal design.

However, I for one do not have any problems (honestly)

running ArmA on XP SP2 and 8800GTS (97.92 driver)

See posts mentioned.

I do have the heavy fog as well.

How about you read your game manual .. where it says "Operating system" before you post a rant like that ?

I hate to say it, but the root of your problem are indeed the poorly developed drivers for the 8800 card ( Which has MANY problems in MANY other games as well. Google it up. ) and the fact that you installed the game on Vista,( which has MANY problems running MANY other games as well. Google it up. ).

So, as always, please install the game under the OS it was designed for. It will work. Trust me.

Well i dont think it is a Vista Problem I am Running Vista Home Prem and running Duel 8800 GTX's and my Armed A runs fine on Patch 1.4 with everything maxed out the only time I get any issues is when I patch 1.5 and like everyone else the graphics are then screwed. Yes the guys should have researched more but dont jump down his throat blaming Vista or 8800s there is great drivers for 8800 on XP it is only the sli support that is a bit dodgy but with the 100.65 Driver it is supported and the 101.45 there are enabling better DX support on silgle systems but DX 10 wont come until a later patch.

cheers all for the replies, couple of things...

i didnt think my post was particularly rantish, but still....

OK, so i guess its my fault for making the mistake of purchasing a new computer, in an attempt to ensure that i could run a new game on the latest equiptment.

correct me if im wrong but vista wasnt a particularly good secret was it? i mean people knew it was coming a fair way before it arrived..same with the 8800 cards... In fact dont all new computers come with vista now? BIS can hardly say they didnt see vista coming can they? Maybe the thought it would be a fad... the yoyo of the computer world?

imagine if a car manufacturer produced a car that didnt run on unleaded fuel after all petrol stations removed their leaded pumps? or hey, why doesnt 20th century fox just release all its new movies on VCR? and the new 50 cent album will come out on casette....

(ok that bit was a bit rantish, but i hope you can see my point? Its hardly the fault of the public who got vista as standard on their new PCs and bought the latest hardware to give them an advantage is it? BIS should have been ahead of the curve shouldnt they? otherwise their product is obselete before its launched - its harldly the fault of the consumer)

Oh and by the way, any word on the original point of this post? the bugtracker? why cant i register to log these bugs? has anyone logged them already? have BIS come back to us?

cheers,

Kiwi.

Oh and just to mention, the only reason i care enough to post is that i actually think this game is fantastic and could be truly amazing, i will stick with it and wait for patches, i'm just saying.... confused_o.gif

What happens when you try to register?

Do you get an error message?

And which name did you register under?

Also, in case you weren't aware of that, there's also a dedicated forum for the bug tracker.

Kiwi;..isnt that the 101% same situation with Windows XP

back then? Did you personally 'Xperience' the pile of shit,

called Windows XP 1.0 ? I came aboard long after SP1 and

only then was totally convinced..compared to W98SE2 before.

Games? Drivers? Apps? The lot?

And very unfortunally, ArmA got released (with XP support 'only' )

to almost the exact same time as Vista; 8800; the *other* lot.

Everyone is in the same boat and only few managed to get

their code 'in shape' for Vista release. Thats my impression anyways.

BIS is not an big company and judging from

ArmA 1.0 state, they were struggling to get out an working

version at all. (Pure assumtion)

Give it some time, please.

Edit: Removed some negative Vista opinions from my post.

Hey Kiwi. I didn't mean to come off smart, but your post indicates you know little-to-nothing about software developement. You bought a really nice PC there, and your hardware is not really the problem. Your operating system is.

I've been a 1st level support engineer in real life for a couple of years now. I work for a huge insurance companies IT department, and we have several applications designed to work under certain operating systems. We especially have web based applications, and those were designed, using the ActiveX componenets os the IE6. When a user calls me who wants to open a support ticket because one of the web applications does not work, and I see he has Mozilla installed .. I tell him: No support. You must use the IE6.

All I want to say is: Set up a dual boot system and install the game under XP. If the problem isn't solved by that I'll offer support until it is.

So since this is a user to user board and not a hotline to get a ticket for support you should rethink what you are doing here.

Every post made by you reminds me on those supporthotlines now i know why it is so.

support Computer:

Choose your otion:

"stupid customer A:" "stupid customer B:" "stupid customer C:"

"please hold the line... please hold the line..."

20min. later support center:

"hello MIster X oh i see you got a problem i will connect you to our technical support"

"please hold the line... please hold the line...."

25min. later technical support center of support center for support:

"Hello Mister X the support center told us about your problem so you got a problem! banghead.gif Mister X can you tell me what the problem is....? Ohh you really got a problem you now will get a ticket with this ticket wait a few days and see if the problem is fixed. Was this support helpfull for you?" "No!" "Okay thanks can i help you otherwise?" "No"

"tut tut tut".

Don´t you read my last post iam running ArmA on both Systems XP and Vista with dualboot the problems are mostly the same except V-sync, everything else is misconfiguration of the whole System like firewalls....

Also i don´t think the nvidia drivers are that bad at all ArmA 1.02 was running very good on both OS but ArmA 1.05 makes alot of problems on XP and Vista and they are the same. The only thing i noticed is that on Vista the probs may occur a little bit faster than on XP but this doesn´t change the fact.

So please Desertfox since you don´t have Vista yourself don´t tell everyone to install XP to get a ticket by you to get support this is the lamest thing i have read for a while on this board.

Also where do you get your info from that BIS will not support Vista? True i never read a statement that they do but also never that they wouldn´t. <-- This also goes to Kiwi who needs little bit patience. Next patch will come and we will see what happens and maybe 1 day we will have a official statement about ArmA and Vista.

hey there all,

an interesting thread...

desertfox, as for going back to XP, i reiterate the point made by others, i loved my rig on 1.04 ArmA, it was better looking than my last girlfriend and more stable too. Hey and all the vista bashers, it aint so bad! my vista ultimate rig is great, and i actually like the look and feel of vista, which is why i chose to upgrade to it, i know enough about comps to have made the choice, i wasnt duped by microsoft..

it was mainly 1.05 that caused the perverbial sh*t to hit the fan. (except the whole fog thing)

What i actually started this post to look for was if there was any word from BIS, believe it or not i am actually patient and dont mind waiting for BIS to sort the game out and indeed get it dialled in for Vista, i dont expect all the answers now, what i dont understand is the way they produce a patch that causes issues, but then wont even acknowledge that these issues are present, leaving the community to ferret out solutions themselves. (please correct me if i am wrong about this, is there a post or bugtracker entry that i am missing?) desertfox, maybe their support staff trained at the same helpdesk school you did?

a simple post on their website saying that they are on to it would leave me smiling like an understanding parent and happily waiting for the next patch.

just a thought..

oh and desertfox you mentioned that i must know 'little to nothing' about software development.... yeah guilty as charged... but i do try to get out occasionally.... whistle.gif

bionic, good call.

Kronzky, thanks for the post, i cant even see the option to register, when i click on register, the only option is to load an existing account, according to the screenshot in the BIS help area, there should be an option next to this for new accounts. its not there for me.

That should get you to a registration page...

y'know sometimes if users don't have something credible to add, DON'T ADD ANYTHING. I too am a Vista/8800GTS driver (and damn proud of my rig) - I look to posts like this to hopefully provide me with a solution to the problem. Answering with smart alec comments like 'read the label on the box and run it on XP' is NOT a proper solution.

Guys keep it constructive. We're not here to debate whether Vista > XP or if MS is the devil in disguise. THis is the ARMA Troubleshooting forum - a lot of us are here to find solutions to our problems (whatever it may be). I paid $90 for ArmA and I expect some sort of help when I have problems running it....even though I'm not running the recommended specs.

You are correct. I've removed some negative Vista bits from my former post. Thanks for pointing out.
