Realism Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Ok this may sound over the top but here goes.

Profile/Attributes:

-Create a Soldier, where a player can choose their custom face/hair/eyes e.t.c, their attributes e.g.:

Accuracy - | | | | | | | | |

Nerve - | | | |

Stamina - | | | | | |

Mechanical - | | |

Swimming - | | | | |

Air - | | | |

The player gets a certain amount of points to start off with so they can customise their attributes to what they think suits them best, but can gain attribute points through a certain amount of confirmed kills, acts of good teamwork such as, carrying a wounded soldier back to a field hospital, air rescuing a squad caught in an ambush e.t.c.

- The player can make choices of his type of kit like rucksack, knife, and other kit items, and their are unlockable pieces of equipment gained by expending attribute points on them.

- A choice of soldier type e.g

Air force

Army

Marines (which would need a certain level of total attribute points gained to join or certain tasks/amount of kills have been performed

Artillery

-

And even an elite special forces to pick from, depending on what country/side the player has chosen

Realistic player damage:

-If you get shot in one leg you have to hop along making you slower

If you get shot in both legs you have to crawl

-Your gun disintegrates/becomes unusable when shot with a high caliber round/multiple bullets

-Bones break when you get shot in certain places, and take time to heal

-Damage done from bullet striking wall near you if debris strikes you

-Blood loss, which can be countered by a field dressing

-Shock, If a player receives a critical wound

-Adrenaline when under fire and/or fear which causes shaking depending on the time in the field the player has played / battle experience of the player (tracked in a statistical way)

-If the player dies, the account becomes unusable/ has to spend a certain amount of time with the account unusable to simulate hospital time(???)

-Limbs can be removed, but if the player puts their severed limb in their inventory and takes it back to the field hospital with them they can get it surgically placed on again, except in the case of decapitation (Assuming that this technology is available by the year 2010 wink_o.gif )

Maps/Environments:

-Big enough maps to make room for strategy, staying as far away from point and shoot gameplay as possible

-To be able to set up bases at chosen locations, and lay down sandbags, mounted machineguns, even go as far as having a whole camp set up with formal parade, command tents for strategy e.t.c

-If there are going to be city environments ingame, make the civillians less generic in appearance, and if there is say, a busy city area, make it a believable one with advanced civillian AI

-Underground areas aswell as above ground areas

-Rain causes some areas to become muddy and makes it slower to cross those areas

-Realistic field hospitals that an injured player can voluntarily check themselves into, but takes a much longer amount of time to heal than in ArmA, or could allow the players to disconnect without adding a death to their records.

-An armoury and a storage building for weapons/clothing/gear

Weapons:

-A knife, a player can pick his own knife from a selection when creating his profile

-Sniper rifle has correct to real life ballistics of wind and drop, individually to each rifle being used, A range card to help with calculating and estimating should be used, aswell as a calculator

-Weapons must undergo maintainence occasionally, checking for

stoppages, cleaning e.t.c

-Training for a weapon / role that you must pass before you can use online

-Anti-Material Weapons actually work and penetrate realistically, can take out choppers if they strike the engine block, same with all engined lightly armoured vehicles

-Customization of optics, of ammunition types, (tracer, incendiary, AP e.t.c.) rails, buttstocks e.t.c.

-The weapon/class is chosen by a player and they have to stick with it for that account unless some sort of training for a different class is done and they have made the change to that class (???)

Equipment:

-A ration pack which contains items such as a freeze dried meal which a fire has to be made to be cook it on, small things like sweets and chocolate for small amounts of stamina on the move, water purifying tablets that you can use to turn water in a stream, river, beach e.t.c into drinkable water, a canteen to hold your water in.

-A rugsack to hold lots of different equipment in, which can be dumped / hidden in a place where it can be picked up again, either by the soldier who it belonged to, the side he is fighting with or the side he is fighting against

-Grappling hook to climb/abseil down mountains

-Tools to set up a tent and/or a fire to sleep or cook with

Whilst a soldier is sleeping they might need an AI or player to stand patrol.

Multiplayer:

- The battles can involve huge ammounts of players at one time

- A formal system in game for regiments/clans e.t.c officially built in, aswell as a built in way for clans to challenge each other, agree to work together against other collaborations of clans and arrange battles instead of having to do it on a website

- A statistic system that emphasises on accomplishments that involved teamwork and cooperation,

showing succesful missions, confirmed kills which can earn a player a promotion, yet not as easily or unrealistically as the

well known system in battlefield 2.

-The formal parade system would Improve players who participate attributes and bring them closer to their next rank

- A long warmup time that allow for players to sort out all their strategies/formations

Vehicles:

- The ability to bring fuel canisters on board with you rather than having to travel long distances to refuel

- Being able to repair certain parts of the vehicle such as tires,

engines, chassis e.t.c

-Gunships that can hold realistic amounts of infantry and allow HALO and HAHO jumps to be conducted

-The ability to shoot whilst riding in the back of a humvee type vehicle

-Usable mirrors to change view whilst in a car

-If there is a room then an ability to move around inside a vehicle rather than being in one fixed position and only being able to freelook e.g. -> to be able to get down on the floor if the vehicle is under fire

Uniform/Appearance:

-Players can 'Create a player' whilst creating their profile and choose from a set of faces, eyes, hair e.t.c.

-Camoflauge can be changed at a camp that has been set up, aswell as facepaint be applied, also other gear, suits and non weaponry player items can be obtained at a storage building in the camp.

-Maybe the ability to impersonate an enemy by taking a dead enemies clothes (???)

AI:

-NPC's take cover properly, and take cover when under a certain level of concentrated fire

-Enemies fall back and try to escape if they are proved to be outgunned by a certain amount of casualties in the area they are fighting in

A lot of these ideas may seem unfeesable to most but i'd like to see what BIS's opinion would be.

I agree with everything you say here. I also believe that your ideas to integrate game play mechanics that take time should be easily if not suitably used in an RPG type game. If he game is going to be an RPG then you shouldn't be able to just jump into a game and shoot stuff. You should have to work for what you get like any RPG though I'm still curious as to how this will pan out seeing as I don't believe there have been many if any at all, military RPG's of this proposed magnitude. One thing that I believe should happen, adding on to your ideas for the clan and hierarchy structure, is to join a server that you will play on for a while and when you join in, after let's say basic training, you're assigned or possibly even choose a regiment or company to serve in. This may come in the form of clans or it may come in the form of a random selection process so that when you join in you will always be with the same people allowing a deeper connection between you and the other players you fight along with. You may even find yourself fighting for your life but that of your squad mate.

Another thing I would like to add to is your idea of shock. Could this be a greater form of immersion the shell shock used by many games today? I ask because I had similar ideas or at least hopes of this type of game play used. As a personal suggestion I would like to see the shock go deeper than the usual darkened screen followed by great amounts of visual distortion. I would ove their to be an animation or at least a form of, dare I say, rag doll that would, from the players first person point of view, knock the player to the ground. This could end either in some sort of great handicap, ie. legs are broken as you said earlier, or end in a sort of prone position with that blur there as an after effect. I believe that this type of rag doll would be better suited for these tyes of situations as well as create a greater sense of immersion for the player. This might come around when a shell goes off near you and you're knocked to the ground either by the force or because you didn't expect it. You always see these things happen but usually in first person cut scenes. Why not incorporate them into game play instead. Shel the place where your enemies lie not to just kill them but to create confusion and chaos so that you can essentially mop up anyone left.

These types of gameplay would be a great promotion for support classes like medics. With your idea to have wounds be deadly over time as well as create a sort of incapacitation for players caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, medics would be greater in number and demand. To add to your medical ideas about hospitals and the ability to go where you can be healed or have a limb reattached, could there be a possibility to have med evacs as well. In essence a medical squad whose sole job is to get the wounded out of the battlefield and get them healed as fast as possible to get them back into the fight. With this I have always wanted, as a medic, to be able to drag people who have been injured, for example those who have lost their ability to walk or those in a longer state of shell shock, to med evacs or somewhere where they can be treated without risk of injury or death to the medic.

I agree with everything* except for the attributes stuff. Maybe soldiers shouldnt be allowed to fly choppers at all, im not sure but i would hate stats. (My m16 has +3 damage to east soldiers! )

*As in 'it could be in', not 'it should be in'. Alot of stuff would be nice but doesnt really add much to the game.

I don't mean anything unrealistic like extra damage, just attributes that correspond to real life values, like stamina, endurance or vehicle-specific features, maybe training to unlock/upgrade them would be an idea?

this wouldnt be a game, just hook this up to my veins and let me be lol.

EDIT

now the serious stuff.

I love the face camo idea. i reckon it would be great to have a suit up stage prior a battle. walk around camp, chill out. maybe even have a diary to read. check your weapons possibly sight them in for specific weapons. go around talk to fellow soldiers. This should also be timed. If the campaign is dynamic, maybe we should have it so u have to be at a preregistered point by a certain time or suffer consequences.

Then a debrief time. Maybe a little R&R wouldnt be misplaced. actually a trade system wouldnt be bad. buy candy from the market place, then give it out to kids or horde it to urself.

Are rumours of the morale system confirmed yet? I remember hearing somewhere about the troops wanting u to read letters and that sorta stuff.

Nice ideas churnedfortaste

I've been waiting for this game oh...Forever!

I especially like the attributes especially for IA. Not everyone is a crack shot, some soldiers are highly athletic some better prone marksmen. I would like to 'feel' this in a game.

Attributes for how steady someone's aim is would be a great help, it would stop them from just going straight into the game and playing like it was CS...

Also I think that if you gained attributes, it would be fair to lose them if you don't engage in whatever increases them for a while, to give the realism of 'being rusty' at whatever your skill is smile_o.gif

I think you need to get a girlfriend.

I am trying to see how this is constructive, and I have every belief that you would be less than happy should you spend time putting together a lengthy post only to see someone glibby reply as you have done.

Kindly refrain from such a post again.

I think you need to get a girlfriend.

I think that deserves a reply as childish as this:
