Boat Controls

Recommended Posts

This is not a gripe but simply a suggestion that we can have more realistic controls for boats. Helicopter controls have been bashed to death here, as has the mouse auto centre for cars & trucks, so I'm going to bash BIS about my ArmA boating problem!  tounge2.gif

Well it is really just annoying and unrealistic that the engine control should be assigned to rudder left and right also. When I want to turn the rudder I don't want any fluctuations in speed as well! It is most annoying while going full throttle (I assign this to my stick slider) then I hit left or right to turn slightly and the revs drop as well. It's just not possible to make high-speed turns. Also if the boat is stationary and I hit left or right this should turn rudder only with no power it should have no effect on the boat until I move the throttle just like IRL.

Keep engine throttle separate from rudder that's all I request. I know this is how it was for OFP also but this is a sim after all and I love playing with the boats just as much as the choppers!  biggrin_o.gif

Oh yeh, and that auto centre thing with the mouse, wouldn’t it be great for it to be turned off just like in OFP?  wink_o.gif

RK. As you are so fond of saying (in quite a few threads). This isn't OFP. It's called Armed Assault.

Lets have a bit less of the 2001 and a bit more 2007 if you don't mind, thank you.

And why are you so against realistic boat physics? I find the boat physics pretty dissapointing. They don't feel like you're floating on water, but I guess the code went into other things like helicopter/plane physics, as boats aren't a major part of the game..

With his postcount chances are good he's an OPF 'fanboy'.

/ OT on

For you (and not only for you) there's this 'Edit' Button above your last post. Guess you can figure what it does.

You don't trying to raise your postcount here by making useless posts, don't you? tounge2.gif

/ OT off

I agree with the boats, turning without any throttle is banghead.gif

You're welcome to add your suggestion to the ArmA Bugtracker smile_o.gif

Agree, steering should not effect the throttle, it does that both in cars and boats now. If you try to get out of a ditch in a car you need to drive straight because steeing kills the engine power. Very frustrating. And with boats you can't make high speed turns, they seem underpowered to.

I don´t care that much about the handling, although there is certainly things with it that can improved but I am very concerned with the AI handling of the boats, especially the small ones. Had a driver with a waypoint, careless, speed: full, that was supposed to drop me off at a shoreline.

It was a nightmare. The driver chose a speed of around 5 km/h was unable to follow the simply one waypoint route and ended up in a circle 300 m´s away from the dropoff point.

Something definately is not right there.

Or do we have to use moveInPilot now for the boats ? biggrin_o.gif

You are beginning to sound like an OFP fanboi.

Yep I loved OFP, I also make an effort to read other peoples posts properly before replying in any manor least of all pointlessly and twice at that!

Boat handling was done the same in OFP that’s what I said, but IMO it could be changed for the better, as could the car controls which were actually better in OFP and could be changed back.

I agree also with Bals’ about AI and boat waypoints. I tried to go for a boat ride while I was doing some paperwork just so I could have a virtual Sarani tour, but the boat driver was virtual crap and never got above 4 0r 5 kph, kept stopping and I never even got to my first waypoint! Maybe he was having virtual engine trouble!  biggrin_o.gif
