NEO -PZ- 0 Posted February 6, 2002 Tried to find some tweaking programs to improve the connection of all poor 56K-ers... Anyway, couldn't find any, but there is. Do you know any good tweaking programs? You could list them on this thread... Also, other tips for 56K-ers to reduce their ping? Not to brag, but I've got 10 Mbit/sec broadband Ahem, two screenshots to prove my superior bandwidth: Small one (for those 56K-ers ) and bigger one. Heh
MitchSchaft 0 Posted February 6, 2002 Well, 56kers should come to terms with the fact that today's games are way ahead of 56k technology. Also, 10Mb/s would be awesome for a server with the right hardware. Our squad rents a T3 line for $100/mo. It still lags sometimes. Just goes to show that this game is not perfect. BigQEd 0 Posted February 6, 2002 We run Redundant OC3's (OC3 = 155Mbps). The thing with OFP is the fact that it will never utilize more than approx 5Mbps with it's current Netcode. The ONLY advantage to having a larger connection is the fact that with the larger pipe your latency is usually reduced. OC3 is pure fiber and thus the next hop outside the internal netowrk is less than 8ms.
mahuja 12 Posted February 7, 2002 Another reason for redundancy is that you can have other things running beside the game, with less probability of affecting the game traffic. If two packets "collide" in the routers, one of them has to wait, and that may well be the ofp one. If there is redundancy, they can be sent by different directions. Wish I had something like that. It's not possible here because I'm not as rich as... no idea...
NEO -PZ- 0 Posted February 8, 2002 Don't you know any tweaking programs? Out.
BigQEd 0 Posted February 8, 2002 Tweaking programs for what? To change Latency issues? Sorry but there is no way to improve on Redundant OC3 connection unless you goto an OC48 or an OC192 and so forth... which by the way is what we are actually riding on just not utilizing No one running a OFP Server has anything close to FragHaus. Reason... FragHaus is run and owned by a large ISP that connects directly to a Major Fiber ring. (others may try but it won't happen unless UUnet themselves hosted a server which won't happen because they could careless about such and even then it would need to be near a main hub)
NEO -PZ- 0 Posted February 8, 2002 I'm probably too tired to understand what you are saying. All I'm asking is 'does anyone now any tweaking programs for all the 56Kers out there, which will get their connections improved by using these programs'. Ay. MitchSchaft 0 Posted February 11, 2002 As I was saying before. No. You can't increase your bandwidth by "tweaking".

WhoCares 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Please don't start this squabbles in this thread again since the last .thread has been closed because of that... My little experience: With my little 768k/128k ADSL from germany one of the best servers in US is Fraghaus with pings between 180 and 250 and ~20 players. So I had some good games with little lag over there. The same time Radishville (you usually refer to) gives me always ping not as good as Fraghaus, but on good days I can get get low 200 pings to it and so I had some nice games there as well. And if your RN servers will be up and give me good pings I might show up there as well (however, since I play with a different nick, you will never know it ) In fact, I don't care on which/whose server I play, all I'm interested in is some good games. I even have to agree with you partially, that the way the Fraghaus Squaddies play is sometimes annoying, but I can disconnect whenever I want. Sometimes I wonder wether it is so much fun for them to smash the unorganized mob, what's little challenge at all. But there are some tactics I use, that makes their life a little harder and that's my piece of fun in such situations. Back to the servers, I am glad to see you're going to provide some (hopefully) good ones (and it would be my pleasure, to beat your a$$ once or twice on them ), but there is no need to flame other hosts for their servers. The more ded. servers we have the better, no matter how good or bad they are (related to the maschine, the connection and the players on them). It gives us just more options in our freedom of choice. In the end it doesn't matter, on which server you play, as long as you have some fun and a good game... Just some thoughts WhoCares
mahuja 12 Posted February 11, 2002 You CAN tweak the tcp/ip settings of windows somewhere in the registry. It can possibly help a bit on lag issues. Not much though - get a better connection if you can.
moerty 0 Posted February 11, 2002 i think the netcode should be fixed for every1, i find it shamefull that i've got a dsl, i'm pinging under 100 ms yet when i play mp everything lags and skips like hell, i shoot some1 and he teleports 100 feet and dies. I don't remember how much difference these programmes made, but they make difference. And yes, if you can you should get a better connection, but not everyone can afford it and not everyone has even got the possibility to get a better connection. OK, Another tip, if not just for 56K-ers, so for everyone: * Shut down every program that takes bandwith, while playing OFP MP (e.g. MSN Messenger). Hmm, could you think of any more tips? NEO -PZ- 0 Posted February 24, 2002 Yay! Internet speed increasers! A list at Download.com with loads of such programs. And there are freewares. Enjoy...
MitchSchaft 0 Posted February 24, 2002 If you think you're gonna go from 5KB/sec to 7, 8, or 10KB per second through a software program may God have mercy on your soul:D. Those programs will "optimize" your connection, but will not produce a signifigant result.
Mr no 0 Posted February 24, 2002 try this site it as a very good help section for you 56kers   info if you need any help email me
ufo_hk 1 Posted February 24, 2002 Some tweak ideas for 56K on OFP: 1/ Win9X - check your mtu etc settings using eg "TweakDun" 2/ Use don't use gamespy or ASE to find OFP games, use remote connection preferrably to someone who has a broadband connection. 3/ Use private games with limited number of players. 4/ Join with players on the same ISP. 5/ Disable most background programs using "enditall" 6/ Use missions with limited number of in game objects, try these: http://members.lycos.co.uk/bloodmixer/ or/ http://pub16.ezboard.com/fi82map....9.topic have fun....
