desertfox 2 Posted February 19, 2007 What soundcard do you use if any ? Your mainboard utilizes a Realtek AC'97 soundchip. Try disabling it in the BIOS and see if the error remains please. I had exactly the same error, as I mentioned before, and thing is I have an Asus mainboard with onboard sound as well. Where have you got your chipset drivers from ? From the Asus website or from Nvidia ?
fubarno1 0 Posted February 20, 2007 Hi Fox, No I havent disabled my sound card on the mobo because thats the only one there is, Drivers were updated from the Asus site. Fact is that 1.02 was/is working on this set-up so what have they 505/BIS/Securerom added to 1.04 that would break it. I can unistall 1.02 clear all trace of the install then install 1.04 I then get the winmm.dll error when I try starting the game, I can uninstall and remove all trace of 1.04 reinstall 1.02 and still get the same error, but if I restore the system to the point of 1.02 being uninstalled and then reinstall 1.02 then the game will load. Something in 1.04 is breaking something, this has been reported to 505 (seems like its a Dutch help centre) and have been promised a call back sometime today....any bets I dont get one. I can format and reload the drive image install 1.02 and that will work. I can format and reload the drive image install 1.04 and that wont work.
desertfox 2 Posted February 22, 2007 I think your problem are the nForce drivers. Try if these drivers solve the problem please. http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_win2k_6.86.html
fubarno1 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Been there done that as the saying goes. We ended up returning ArmA 1.04 for an exchange to another game, I am still running 1.02 and hope that 1.05 dont break anything like 1.04 did.
desertfox 2 Posted February 25, 2007 I think I found a possible solution. The past 2 hours I could not start ArmA anymore, even re-installed it. I found out there is a brand new driver from realtek for the AC97 soundchip that solved my problem. It's only 2 weeks old. AC97 Driver
(1VB)YAKMAN 0 Posted March 17, 2007 I downloaded the latest AC97 drivers & the latest AL drivers, still no good. Disabled sound on the MOBO & the game works. I'm getting a new sound card this week so I'll post what happens after install. Game is patched to 1.05.
h.kan 0 Posted March 17, 2007 I also have this grave problem. Without luck i have installed new drivers for AC97 but no joy, removed it in setup, installed a SB soundcard with new drivers but no luck. I also afterwards installed the Open AL and reinstalling directx. I have a newly formatted and clean installation of XP. No programs like Daemon etc. I have uninstalled ArmA, removed all keys in the registery also for securom, all remindings on C and installed it again, no luck. It will not start 1.0 nor 1.05. It shure would be nice with some feedback from BI!
desertfox 2 Posted March 17, 2007 @ (1VB)YAKMAN & h.kan Do you guys have Asus mainboards with nForce chipsets, and if so, have you updated your nForce chipset drivers from the Nvidia.com site, prior to installing the Realtek AC97 driver ? You might try that.
h.kan 0 Posted March 17, 2007 I have Abit NF7v2 and updated the chipset driver, enabled AC97 and installed latest drives for that again. Well no change, I guess it´s not a drive issue in my case. It must be the securom protection that is screwed up. I also have tried a no-cd patch with no luck.
desertfox 2 Posted March 17, 2007 Okay a last shot .. try installing the Open AL thingy now additionally to the rest. If that does not work I am clueless I'm afraid. You tried disabling the onboard sound in your BIOS ?
h.kan 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Na that didn´t help either. Yes I have disabled/enabled the sound in bios. Well thanks for your help anyway.
desertfox 2 Posted March 17, 2007 Did you download the chipset drivers from Nvidia.com ?
h.kan 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Abit uses the original drives so that doesn´t matter.
desertfox 2 Posted March 18, 2007 Actually it might matter. The ones on the Asus site for example are one year older than the ones on the Nvidia site. Not sure about Abit but worth a look ?
h.kan 0 Posted March 19, 2007 ohh I have checked and they are the same. Actually I have tried both but...
