POPKA 0 Posted February 16, 2007 Im *Atempting to run the UK version of Armed assault on these specs: Pentium 4 3.0ghz 1 gig of ram, For some reason though after about five minuites in game, on the lowest settings physically possible the computer crashes coming up with the "Going to sleep"/Hibernation message on my moniter and then the computer reboots itself and when I logon im given the "This computer has recovered from a serious error" message. Ive tried updating and completely reinstalling the graphics card drivers but it has not made any difference. I have a feeling though that it might be due to somthing that happened to my computer a couple of weeks ago, there was a power surge and the computer would not turn on atall and so I had it sent away for a repair, The Armed assault demo worked ok before this. The power supply was replaced and the computer seemed to be working ok. And then I bought Armed assault today which is the first game ive played on it other than OFP (none of this crashing happens in OFP) since I had it repaired and this problem keeps on happening regardless of the settings. So i was wondering if anyone had any idea how I could fix/ or what is causing this problem?

Luciano 0 Posted February 16, 2007 Try to play some other intensive games/demo's. Run a graphic intensive software and see if the crash occurs. I would have blamed the PSU but you said you cahnged it. So see if ARMA is the only game doing this.
POPKA 0 Posted February 16, 2007 I tested a few other games over the past hour, all Half-life 2 based games crash, Medieval Total war 2, Oblivion, even Doom running on the Doomsday engine. Half-life 1 games dont crash, neither does flashpoint so im guessing somthing is giving up for more high spec games.
zyklone 1 Posted February 16, 2007 Most likely the system overheats when both the graphics card and cpu is working at 100%. More fans! Not ArmAs fault atleast.
POPKA 0 Posted February 16, 2007 I doubt it is the Graphics card or Processer. I think it may have somthing to do with the replacement powersupply (If they replaced it with a duff one) or possibly the motherboard as I read that sometimes powersurges can cause dammage to the mother board. Trapper 0 Posted February 16, 2007 For me such crashes were caused by a new noname power supply. All heavy tasks rebooted the system after a while. Sometimes it wasn't even able to load windows completely before the next reboot. It needed a few minute "cooldown" then. Now I've returned to my old noname power supply, which is still noisy but reliable.
desertfox 2 Posted February 16, 2007 I agree to the power supply theory. With an X600 and a 3.0GHz CPU I recommend a 550W PSU.
Trapper 0 Posted February 16, 2007 You know, it's all about the Ampere values on the different rails and never about those max output marketing Watts. Really difficult to find out which power supply you could trust. Big manufactures labeling their ones lower to have some reserve. Small companys buy them and label them up for resell. Even an expensive power supply is no guarantee.
POPKA 0 Posted February 17, 2007 what powersupply would you recommend I buy in replacement of the current one?
