ArmA/360 avant la lettre:)

Shootin' with Hellfires ain't very interesting. Doesn't show any differences. The big difference should be displayed with FFARing (which requires control-skills). Keyboard and mouse is still superior to all fiendish console inventions.

I also use 360 controller on PC and its great... but in ArmA i would seriously need to configure the keys, the usual way in options doesnt' work for all buttons, how did you assign them so well?

Could you plz leave MY topic alone. We know what your silly point is, now plz get lost. Make your own topic about this 'superior' keyboard/mouse/desk thingy ... i won't bother to reply in that one:)

Hmmm, i remember having trouble to get it right ... i fiddled a lot, but i managed it all from the options menu ... i didn't edit the config file directly. One of the things/probs was the double assignments (they show up in red). You don't want too many of those (but some can't be prevented)

Strangely enough there are 2(!) Fire entries in the option menu. 1 for infantry, the other for vehicles ... I assigned the Y button for both to get it to work. You'd expect that only assigning Y to the vehicle-Fire would be enough to fire when flying but it won't work (i reported this as a bug on the wiki)

Look around (the right stick) is configured under analogue viewing (same place as the TrackIR entries).

Anyway, it is too complicated to put in words. What i will do is make some screenshots (or vid) of my settings and post them here.

Laterz

If anybody wants to try a very similar mission to the vid in the top post, check this topic in user mission forum. I have a mission for download. Character switching can be fun:)

EDIT: Works like a charm, and to be honest its easier/more fun to fly with the controller then my 10 year old joystick tounge2.gif

I just tryed it, and I must say that this is a better way to fly for me then with my wingmaster (way to twitchy) especially with all the extra buttons. It was some tweaking to find the right buttons for me but I guess I have the right set now, not sure about rudders though, really don't use them that much just because I don't see the use in them over turn/bank left/right but I don't have any knowledge about things like that.

Found a handy tool for the xbox360 controller, I haven't used it that much because the ArmA profile was not set to flight but more for combat, one thing I did like about it was that I now can control the ingame menu with it, playes yet more like a console then. And so now and then I love to plug-in my notebook on my TV, so this is a perfect solution for getting that console feeling.

Pinnacle Game Profiler

After instal, reboot. Then the program start and shows you the games you have, it then search for updates for those games.

It is a trial though

I have experimented with Pinnacle Game Profiler with OFP. Didn't like it than because the aiming was not fluid like in Elite. But the software allows for a lot of tweaking and assigning, so i might have another go at it. Wouldn't it be great to have this all-out-Arma/360 feeling without ArmA/360 even remotely on the horizon:)

Hmmm, i would like to post the following news item mods on consoles?

Quote[/b] ]maybe Epic will package user modifications and offer them on the XBL marketplace.

The main arguments of pc (fan)boys over consoles have always been:

1. keyboard/mouse versus controller

2. 'dumbed down' kiddygames on consoles

3. no mods possible on console

Obviously 1. and 2. don't qualify at all as an argument. (well at least not in my book) but yes, number 3 is a valid argument ... but for how long. Elite mod scene already showed/shows it is possible, but if the dev/publisher choose to go that way, things could become interesting.

Long ago i asked for a ArmA/360 version (also because i think BIS actually could make some money on the deal). Above newspost should add a little to the thought of going for a 360 version of ArmA (after ArmA/pc settles down is stable and relatively bug free, that is)

I would like to report on a pm i had with Suma regarding the (right) analogue trigger (of the 360 controller) mapped to 'fire'. Atm this doesn't work.

Last couple of days i fiddled again with the 360 controller and tried to get it right as much as possible for all circumstances (infantry/flying/driving) so, setting it up like Elite.

This (right) analogue trigger prob comes up again. Mapping this to 'fire' just doesn't work. (I would like to map 'hold breath' and 'fire' to the right analogue trigger so as to pull slightly to 'hold breath' and when pulled full you'd 'fire', this is the Elite system)

I pm'ed Suma about this (a very rare thing to do for me cause i imagine those guys to be pretty loaded with work) but what do you know, Suma found time to read my pm and i got a response.

The (right) trigger is an ANALOGUE trigger. It doesn't seem to activate the 'fire' command. My guess is because it is an ANALOGUE input (or should i manipulate the input sensitivity in the config file?).

I understand now. Mapping it to joystick X axis does not work as well. I will check if anything can be done to fix it. Generally, we want analogue and digital input be interchangeable everywhere.

Regards

Big thx to Suma, and we'll wait for a possible solution in a future patch.

Nice allthough atm I only use the controller for Air it would be great to have the entire Elite system in it, but then the menu must also be useable and as far as I know you can only do that with extra software
