WKK Gimbal 0 Posted February 1, 2002 This is not a complaint nor a bug-report. Rather the story of what seems to be an accidential feature in OFP. If you sprint at level ground or up a slope and point your gun directly down in front of you, as much downwards as possible, you can shoot yourself! Try selecting full-automatic fire and empty a mag before your feet. while sprinting. You'll drop dead in most cases. I guess it's because your player cylinder gets to reach the damage radius of the bullet, before this is determined. But it feels like being hit by a bouncing bullet or shooting yourself in the foot, heheh. Nice touch!
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 1, 2002 You can also sometimes kill yourself when you shoot at the ground.
Tovarish 0 Posted February 1, 2002 You can also shoot yourself by going prone, aiming straight down, selecting full auto <ideally>. Start blasting away & stand up while still aiming down. Repeat as needed
Illustrious 0 Posted February 1, 2002 i noticed something like this but thought it was just when u shoot bodies.. i first found it when some guy killed half of my squad.. i went psycho, killed him then went to empty a few hundred rounds into him.. i died though :/ i thought it might have been some strange ricochet but there were no blood splats on me, appart from my hands which had got shot earilier on in the mission. seems to work with all automatic guns, not tried it in burst or semi
Gaswell 1 Posted February 2, 2002 I think Suma or some other interactive Bohemian studioman said that this was the effect of ricochets being modelled in OFP. Not sure, though, and I'm apparently too lazy to search threads. I do know that very near misses will make you wince/scream in OFP, and sometimes also cause damage. This is probably the same thing. Renagade 0 Posted February 2, 2002 yep aperently its meant to be the bulklets bouncing back though id have thought on grass land this wouldnt have happened bit of a pain in the ass when ur a sniper and ur scopes clear but the barrels in the ground
Guest Posted February 2, 2002 Reason it happens is this: indirectHit=2; indirectHitRange=0.100000; If the bullet hits 0.1 M's from you then you get 2 "damage points". So you should be able to kill yourself with hmm 5 4-5 bullets if you can get you headclose enough to the floor
WKK Gimbal 0 Posted February 2, 2002 In fact it's quite realistic. Many games ignore indirect hits with bullets, which is wrong. Many mid- and heavy caliber bullets don't really need to hit you but can still rip limbs off just by passing close by. Actually, I seem to have heard that even an M60 can do this.
