dragonGOD 0 Posted January 30, 2002 I downloaded and installed 1.42 hoping that it would fix my problem with loud static when driving in vehicles, but now the game won't start at all. I've redownloaded and reinstalled all the patches over and over, to no avail. Any help would be great. I'm running Windows XP Professional on an Athalon 1.33 ghz, GeForce 3 vid card, Soundblaster Live! 5.1, 512 megs RAM.
Placebo 29 Posted January 30, 2002 Can you elaborate a bit more, when you say "now the game won't start at all" what happens exactly? CD drive gets accessed then nothing else? Banner shows up then nothing else?
rolex(_-_) 0 Posted January 30, 2002 I have a problem too... Like this one, i cant start the game as normal, it gets back to windows directly after i've started the game. The game icon shows that its running, but when i press it, the screen gets black - and your back in windows again... I have to use an unofficial "OFP Launcher" (i have tried both with and without this launcher installed) to play in a window... And thats not so fun. My system: Win XP; Pentium4 1,8mhz; 512sdram; Geforce 3 Nv20 ti200 64mb;
Placebo 29 Posted January 30, 2002 rolex(_,_) are you running version 1.42 of Opf?
suma 8 Posted January 30, 2002 If any crash files were created (Flashpoint.rpt and context.bin), please send them to support@bistudio.com for detailed analysis. We might be able to provide you more specific help when we receive those files.
rolex(_-_) 0 Posted January 30, 2002 yes i am running 1.
rolex(_-_) 0 Posted January 30, 2002 Well i got both context.bin and Flashpoint.rpt, but i dont know if they are old or so. I'll send em' anyway. And the program doesnt really crash - it looks like its running but i cant get into the game. It keeps on going back to windows when i Alt+Tab (or klick on the icon)... dragonGOD 0 Posted January 31, 2002 yeah, i figured my problem out. Before updating i had Flashpoint set to run in Win 98/ME compatibility mode to try to troubleshoot the problems i was having with the crackling sound. I just checked and found out i never disabled it, and after i put it back to normal all was fine (the sound problem is still there though). So, a word to the wise, don't run OFP in compatibility mode unless you want it to not work...
Placebo 29 Posted January 31, 2002 Do you have the latest drivers for the SB Live? Not the XP generic ones but the actual ones released by Creative? They reduced the crackling for me and then the pci latency tweak got rid of the rest
dragonGOD 0 Posted January 31, 2002 yeah ive gotten all of the newest drivers, and i've bugged creative's tech support about this too. As for the PCI lantency, it appears that my bios doesn't have a setting like that. Closest thing i can find is AGP Secondary Latency Timer, which is set for 00H (some sort of hex setting, not sure what it does) one thing i have noticed is that if i'm in a vehicle, like a jeep, that is causing the static, and i go to sound options and change settings (like hardware off and back on, or voices to single and back to all) the static will go away, until the jeep sound completely stops and starts again i'm not even completely sure the problem is isolated to OFP. When i upgraded to XP, i noticed all of my sounds were louder, and im thinking that *maybe* the over-amplification is causing distortion, like some driver or setting deep within windows somewhere is amplifying my sound too much and i can't find it. dragonGOD 0 Posted February 1, 2002 ok, i've checked out that site, tried everything that could possibly have anything to do with the sound problem, but it's still there. i'm thinking that i'm going to buy a new motherboard, because the one i'm using now uses an AMD northbridge and a VIA southbridge chipset, which makes finding the correct drivers a terrible pain, and i think that the chipset is where my problem lies. anyone have a recommendation on a good motherboard? I've been thinking the ASUS A7A266. Does anyone out there have it and can tell me whether it's worth buying? i have an Athalon 1.333ghz, 512 megs DDR RAM, Sb live 5.1 and a Visontek GeForce 3. Placebo 29 Posted February 1, 2002 That's the exact same mobo I use right now, I like it, plenty of overclocking options which I myself like, it's stable, seems to perform well
dragonGOD 0 Posted February 1, 2002 Cool, I'll be buying one soon then... Thanks for the help.
JPS 0 Posted February 3, 2002 Well I have almost the same version of this problem. A week ago I finally descided to switch from Win98 to Win2000, and I had to install the game all over again. From 1.00 > 1.10 > 1.20 > 1.30 = No problem Then when upgrading from 1.30 > 1.40 or 1.42 = same problem as the others. Turn the game on - first screen - then back to Windows Desktop. Initially I thought it might have something to do with some Firewall-shit, but now some of you talk about a "compatibility-mode". Where do I find that??? Please help - I need to feel up2date again LOL :-) :-) :-) JPS
Placebo 29 Posted February 3, 2002 Well if there was a problem that meant compatibility mode was needed with 1.42 then surely all of us would need to use compatibility mode for 1.42? We don't, thus I really doubt that's your problem, you need to look elsewhere on your system I think
davejag 0 Posted February 3, 2002 I am running WinME and experienced the same problem when upgrading from v.1.4 to 1.42. (i.e., errors occur during the upgrade afterwhich the game will not start.) Â I found a solution that worked for me, so hopefully it will work for others. Note: To be safe, make a backup copy of your FP files before doing this. 1. Insert original FlashPoint CD and select UNINSTALL. 2. After Uninstall is complete, run the INSTALL program again to restore the base version. 3. Run the appropriate patch files to get back up to version 1.3. 4. DO NOT run the 1.4 upgrade patch. Instead, run the v1.42 upgrade. It should install fine now. (At least it did for me.) Good luck. davejag 0 Posted February 3, 2002 This is a followup to my previous post about how to install the 1.42 update. After installing 1.42, I tried re-installing the Gold Upgrade (Red Hammer). This worked fine, but when I ran FlashPoint afterwards, it said I was back to version 1.3 again! So, I tried to run the 1.42 patch again. This time, I encountered the problem again. (By the way, if you have a backup copy of your FP files, you can copy it over your active files to get rid of the error. It's faster than re-installing again.) Here is the error message I get after starting the game and encountering the "black box": An Operation FlashPoint dialog box displays the following message: "No entry 'resource.bin::RscDisplayMain::FP1.size'." If this means anything to anyone, maybe they can find a way to fix it. In the meanwhile, I would be weary of installing the v1.42 patch if you are running the Gold Upgrade. -Dave-
