Mister Frag 0 Posted January 29, 2002 What do those blue screens say? More info about your system would also be helpful.
Mongy 0 Posted February 1, 2002 The Blue screen says this Windows A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C0006311 in VxD VMM C0D + 0005311 OFP ver is 1.42 I have Win98SE VIA chipset with VIA4in1 4.34 geforce 2 yamaha sound card 128 MB ram I have also email BIS
ExtracTioN 0 Posted February 7, 2002 I got the same problem too Please someone out of BIS help
theavonlady 2 Posted February 7, 2002 Follow these BIS instructions to report the problem to them. In the meantime, can you glance at your Flashpoint.rpt file with a text editor and see if there's a dated report of these crashes and post that text here, just in case it looks familiar to someone. Mister Frag 0 Posted February 7, 2002 The crash occurred in the Windows Virtual Memory Manager (VMM), and there's only 128MB of physical RAM. I would suggest adding RAM (at least go to 256MB, better yet 320MB), and increasing the size of the swap file.

ExtracTioN 0 Posted February 7, 2002 oh my system is AMD Athlon 1GH, 256MB Ram, 45.5GH Hard Disk, and a TNT 32MB video Card
Mister Frag 0 Posted February 7, 2002 A memory-mapped file is one that can be accessed like a block of memory. Rather than having to read the data from disk, a simple memory pointer will let you read and write the file, which is far simpler to program. However, memory-mapped files require that there be memory left in the system to map the file into. If there is not enough memory to do that, or if an error occurs while the VMM tries to read from/write to the file, an exception will be thrown, which usually results in a Blue Screen. To fix this, add physical memory (RAM) to your system, and increase the size of the swap file (virtual memory) to at least 512MB.
BabaZed 1 Posted February 10, 2002 I used to be plagued by the bluescreen of death eg "VCache, VMM, VXD" and a few others like TBCSPUD. My problem was windows ME (98upgrade) and even the computer shop couldnt figure it (changed ram several times) i had all the hardware to handle it including 256 ram (optimal for any gaming) but the blue screens got worse didnt matter what i did, then when i upgraded my soundcard it made the whole system even more unstable grrrrrrrr more blue screens MORE often. I was literaly pulling my hair out, and the computer shop hadnt got a clue, apart from one student who went above his bosses head and installed Win2k proffesional and only charged the difference I have never seen a blue screen since, i'd recommend it to anybody over any other O/S XP has potential of course, but only cos its built on NT technology. Win2k is the choice of the proffesionals and now its my choice it works like a dream and stable as hell, of course you will hear people say Win2k is no good for games but thats crap cos at the end of the day a STABLE system is good for games of such "OFP" calibre, and the update service pack 2 deals with most gaming incompatabilities that the previous pack1 fell short of resulting in home consumer dubiousness. I promise get Win2k and kiss goodbye to bluescreens forever
