Conflict between UK OFP 1.2  and US Gold Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I bought the UK OFP 1.2 retail version up here in Canada and downloaded the UK version 1.3 patch. Everything worked fine. Blood hell, this is a cool game!! Then I downloaded the UK version 1.4 patch, and everything still worked fine. The next thing I know I try to install the US (not the UK) version of the OFP Gold Upgrade:Red Hammer Campaign and Kaboom!! The bloody thing won't run anymore.

Crikey, on top of that, it de-graded my OFP version 1.4 backdown to 1.3 !?@#!. So I then re-installed OFP in the following ordered; (i) OFP v1.2 UK, (ii) v1.3 patch UK, (iii) Gold Upgrade US, and (iv) v1.4 patch UK. Now the the bloody thing runs (not as good mind you!), however the US Gold Upgrade: Red Hammer Campaign CRASHES RANDOMLY, the Russian AK-74 will only fires in SEMI-AUTOMATIC mode, and when you closedown the game (if it does crash first, crikey!) the monitor locks up and displays a series of white lines and multi-coloured crap that makes it look like someone hit it with a sledge hammer, !#@&?! Time to reboot and pray to the Microsoft Goddess of the Blue Screen! The this ruddy game is totally buggered!

Thus, this begs the question simply put: "Is the UK OFP original and the US Gold Upgrade compatible?" I bloody-well hope so, I bought it for $ 24 CDN ( i.e.,10 Pounds!!). Help. Anyways, thanks for reading my rant. I would really appreciate to hear if someone else may have this problem, and any advice on what may be done about this royal cock-up. Thanks,

AFAIK US & UK versions are 100% compatible (i.e. seperate patches aren't released for the two version) Yes Installing Red Hammer degrades 1.40 to 1.30 (this is a known problem) the simple reason why this happens is that Red Hammer was released before 1.40, what you should do after installing Red Hammer is to install 1.42 over the top thus taking it back up to 1.42 (I believe 1.40 is no longer needed thus no longer mentioned on Bis' site?)

It might be an idea for you to do a complete uninstall, then install Opf, then Red Hammer then 1.42.

BTW UK Retail is 1.00 as fair as I'm aware? Not really an important point just thought I'd bring it to attention so to speak smile.gif

If I'm wrong about any of this someone will correct me post haste, I'm typing fast as my sofa is calling my name wink.gif

Mine fetches the paper.

If we are indeed talking about international version 1.00, then the upgrade path is 1.00>1.20>1.30+RH>1.42.

Sounds like something is amiss in this reinstall, though. If you're up to it, I would suggest a full reinstall, just in case. Search The FAQ for "reinstall" for a detailed procedure to do this.

Don't know if I remember right but I didn't need the 1.20 patch.

I just installed 1.00>1.3+RH>1.42.

I was under the impression that Red Hammer contains (and installs) all patches between 1.00 and 1.30? Thus patching to 1.30 and making 1.42 the only other patch currently needed?

Thanks for the correction. I am half right, though.

If you install Red Hammer from the Gold Upgrade CD, then indeed, you'll be automatically updated to version 1.30, whether you were previously at 1.00, 1.10 or 1.20. Users of 1.26/7/9 beta will still have to reinstall, however.

I installed the downloadable version of Red Hammer. That requires that you first have version 1.30 installed. And indeed, in order to install version 1.30 with patch files, you must previously have been at version 1.20. If you started off with 1.00, you can skip 1.10 and go straight to 1.20, under these circumstances.

My head hurts. wow.gif
