neswrossi 0 Posted November 21, 2006 In OFP I started designing a CTI map before I realised it was fruitless as no JiP function would ever be implemented into the game. Anyway, now that ArmA is on the horizon I want to start again. My idea would be taken from Planetside, where all major towns would linked together. In order to take a town, the town linked to it on your side of the front line must be taken first. Then you can proceed to the next town. This would create a front line system with a no mans land where the fighting would mostly take place. A town can be taken by capturing its most important building (town hall / church or whatever). Perhaps then defenses could be put in place. Your sides main base could have AI controlled transportation to get players into the battle quickly. I would automatically transport you to a location of your choice (by using the map). Supplies would be ferried in by AI ship at desginated times of the day so that the war can continue. These are just some rough ideas im firing around. I dislike the idea of player controlled squads. You may as well just play single player if theres lots of AI around. AI is good for scripted tasks but for dynamic battlefields its pretty useless.
dm 9 Posted November 21, 2006 The idea is good, but I really dont like the "forcing" of taking towns in order. They added this feature to the PRM Mod for BF2, and it just made gameplay tedious. (Especially since as soon as you're on the back-foot, you're essentially fucked) I think a better way to do something like this is link the towns by convoy routes. Meaning you CAN skip a town, but your supply convoy (thus new units, re-enforcements etc) will have to find another route and take twice as long to arrive or so. That way you ENCOURAGE players to take towns in order, as it speeds up the supply chain, but you don't FORCE them to do it...
neswrossi 0 Posted November 21, 2006 Good idea. I didnt like BF2 because of the random nature points were captured. In a real war there would be a methodical order of taking strategic points. They wouldnt go straight for the main objective.
grayace 2 Posted November 21, 2006 I agree that "next objective" style flow of war, but still like DeadmeatXM2 mentioned, limiting them is not a good option, thats why I proposed few garrisons over an area...
