ArmA Graphics Card

Recommended Posts

Hi all, well I've had my computer for I think about 5 years now.

Lets say my graphics card is not up-to-date. New modern games are unplayable on my pc. But my PC still runs great with my graphics card..here is the specs for my PC.

SPECS:

Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.53GHz

512MB RAM

DirectX 9.0c Veresion.

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

A couple questions.

If I were to get a new graphics card, a higher one, will it effect any other of those components?

Also what type of graphics card would I need to support ArmA (Anyone know for sure?)

What would be the cost of the new modern graphics card around the U.S. Midwest area?

Thanks all for answering, because I do plan on buying Amred Assault when it's out, but I nee a supportable PC..

Id say none of those components really meet the requirements for arma.

Frankly I'd say that PC will hardly play at the minimum settings.

You need a better processor, a (much)better video card, more RAM, and probably a load of hard drive space for all the mods that will be coming out. tounge2.gif

I don't think it will be unplayable, just not enjoyable.

I had one of those fuckers a couple of years ago. It hardly ran OFP banghead.gif

Does it even have any kind of pixel shader support?

I'm not sure where to find it. I do have a graphics card ICON in my systems try area on my desktop with options but not sure where to find it in there.

Well yeah I believe i would have to atleast update my graphics card...ah well maybe it's time I invest some more money into this thing.

Nope, the damn thing probably wont even start without a Geforce FX/ATI 9xxx-series adapter.

So i'de probably be looking to spend about $200-$500 for a new graphics card for ArmA?

Youll also need 512MB more ram at least and maybe a new processor as well. Im not an expert on intel stuff so I dont know how well that specific one performs but it doesnt look too good.

A great DX9 card, such as a Geforce 7900, can come around $200-300.

Depends on your motherboard as well, though. If you still have AGP you are a bit screwed.

I mine as well buy a new PC. lol...But I could buy the game and see how it goes...no guarantees... We'll see once they release the game here in the U.S...which will hopefully be soon.

Also I bought the lego starwars for PC and that doesn't work either. Here are the requirements for the game.

NVidia GeForce 3ti, 4ti, FX, 6 and 7 series cards &ATI Radeon 8500 and 9000 series or higher...

I dont know what all those numbers mean but it seems higher then my graphics card, dont know how much higher.

Get an NVidia 6800GT (AGP version if it is an AGP board) and another 512 of ram and see how it runs! Your processor isn't the fastest but might cope in most situations if you don’t want to fork out a fortune! Changing your processor will probably mean changing your MB and everything else though! If you do anything else you might as well start from scratch and buy a whole new PC!  smile_o.gif

EDIT: Got PCI & AGP mixed up!

I wouldn't bother upgrading that PC it's really not worth it, if you upgrade to a decent video card the CPU and memory wont be fast enough. You would be better off getting a mainboard with PCI-Express, 1GB Ram, if you want to go fairly cheap then AMD 3500+ are very cheap now or you could get something like a AMD 4200+ or 4400+ for a bit more. If you dont mind spending more then the best option now would be a Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 or 6600.

For a video card nVidia 7950 GT's are going for a decent price as nVidia just released there 8800 series card.

A discussion of the nature "what do I need to upgrade" belongs in the pinned PC Discussion thread in the OT forum, please use that smile_o.gif
