Automatic merge of triangles of a dxf/3ds model?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

i'm new to o2. I want to import 3ds models that have trianglulized sides. (2 triangles for 1 side, instead of a polygon)

Does anyone have an idea or know an application that offers an automatic way to merge trianglulized sides back ? It can be done manually but can take ages on a complicated model.

Why do i need it ?

I'm modeling buildings in the Halflfe Worldcraft/Hammer editor. The dxf-file is converted into a 3ds file, UV mapped with LithUnwrap, have the KData added with Anim8or and then imported into O2. Works like a charm.

Polygon sides are far better to handle instead of single triangles when moving vertices on the uv map.

I could write a short "HowTo" if wanted. smile_o.gif

The many confusing features that Oxygen has (I am being silly and sarcastic)

In Oxygen "Structure/Triangulate" will cut faces in triangles

Oxygen " Structure/Sqarize" (not my typo) will square triangualted faces back

Just note - it works only with faces with smooth edges! So first you have to select your whole model, pres "I" for smoothing it and then run "squarize".
