RKSL Test Island 1 is a 25x25km Island created for the sole purpose of testing RKSL’s addons and scripting systems.   Incorporating several airbases, bridges, Oil refineries and various other possible targets, the terrain is intended for use with low flying aircraft and SAM and not for Infantry Warfare.  It’s been used extensively to test both the Harrier and Fire Control Addons and well as most of the community made planes and vehicles.  As such its content has changed and evolved over time.  Some areas have been developed; others are just empty or incomplete.

This is not a finished product by anyone's imagination. This pack represents part of the salvaged files from the 'Great RKSL Server Suicide' earlier this year and contains quite a few older models from dates varying from 2+ years ago to the last few weeks. The quality isn’t great on some so don't expect every object to be finished. Some aren't much more than place holders, others are abandoned projects.

It comprises of approximately a 50/50 split between desert and Euro terrain and includes 3 airbases. One a full size international airport, with some new structures and objects.  There are several known land texture issues and the same from some placement issues.  

• This Pack is released “as is†and will not be supported by the RKSL team in anyway.  

• This release should be regarded as an ALPHA and contains many unfinished and incomplete addons.  As such any conflicts or issues arising from its use are up to you to sort out.

I’ve removed most of the 3rd Party addons that were dotted around the map to reduce the download requirements.  If you get any missing addons errors after downloading the addons below please contact me and I’ll give you links to the appropriate addon if possible.

We are releasing this right now as a community resource; anyone is free to take the models contained within the “rksl-i1-obj.pbo†and “rksl-i1.pbo†files and modify them providing:

1) A credit and link is given to RKSL and our website in the Release documentation.

3) Users may not sell, sub-license, rent or lease any portion of the Software.

In the SW of the main Island - LoBois Base - follow the coast road form the Sadam International Heading SE and you'll find it.

Originally (pre Great Server Suicide) there were actually models for the lights and a scripted approach strobe system.

The SSPAR array at Fort Accoustic was a much better model, enterable etc. I also lost 6 new hanger types and a load of airport objects including Garages HESCOs, barriers and fuel dumps.  There are also some objects in the PBO file that havent been placed.

Quite alot was lost and this is all that remains.  I may revisit some of the projects for ArmA as a sideline but this will likely be my first and last island release :P

FANTASTIC!

The airbase is exeptionally great! thumbs-up.gifthumbs-up.gif

Going to do some tree planting though, and maybee changing the hangar without textures for now. Getting the mapfact airport stuff on there, making the main platform a bit smaller. But definatly NOT touching the rest. The HASs are very nice, just great work!

Its not so much an Alpha to be honest...Its really just a sandbox for me to try out new textures, models and ideas. The island changes almost weekly with stuff being added and modified all the time. But by calling it an Alpha I just wanted people to understand that is not a finished product and isn’t likely to ever be finished by any of the RKSL Team.

Its been smoothed and reshaped quite extensively over the last 12 months so it even runs smoothly on my old P3 1gb laptop!

Anyway, thanks for all the compliments guys. I hope you have fun playing around and exploring...there’s a few Easter eggs to find as well as the new models.

I just saw the runway lighting! That is fantastic! Never seen such amazing light displays in OFP...

Ive figured out how WRPTOOL works a bit more while I was working on the island aswell! thumbs-up.gif

Ive made the changes with the trees and moved some hangars, and put some more shelters down. Now I need to try to get the Mapfact ctrl tower and airport in, and also some baracks and other buildings like radar stuff.

I havent had time to check out the rest of the island, except for a high speed pass in the tornado.

Thanks, im glad it looks good. Although I was a bit concerned it would lag on some people’s machines with that many light sources in one place.

The region tool is a godsend…although you may notice there are a few hundred of those trees with the ‘treehouse’ litter around… be careful what you select for when using it. I once managed to get 250 tomb stones randomly seeded in a 500 sqm area.

Let me have a look what you end up with.

I havent had time to check out the rest of the island, except for a high speed pass in the tornado.

Some parts are worth a quick fly by, others you need to get in a jeep and drive around. You may want to have a look in the Oil fields in the NE too!

Yeah man, I saw it today! < The extras are really nice!

The NE is excellent, I wont reveal it! I flew arround the whole island with the Afro Chinook... I managed to land on the things aswell, walk arround. Going to recreate the piper alpha disaster some day! thumbs-up.gif Also the huuuge radar is cool!

Also the happy forest area will be excellent with the harrier. I tested it out with the older Sea Harrier addon. The island is nice for low level flying indeed, tested with several jets. Ill probally build a target range on a empty part of the map.

Further Ive modified the main platform a bit, made it somewhat smaller. And have been thinking in creating another shelter area on that side, but probally will be too much work. Im now trying to get the Mapfact stuff on the map, however I cannot seem to get it working. It doenst work well in Wrptool. So for now Ive just placed it ingame. It fits exactly between the trees on the military side of the field.

A rotating radar above the trees was missing for the view from the cockpit when taxing out of the shelter area. I used the grouped trees to make the shelters more camoflaged.

Now I need to make some more buildings for like radar room, and things like sqn buildings, and other stuff like fire department, and just lots of buildings that would represent the various things a working airbase would have. Also Im building a huge fence arround the base itself.

Going to put down some small pillboxes, and going to create some signs. Also creating a main gate, with Welcome sign. Not sure with sqn badges Ill put down on the sign. Probally Tornado's, Chinook's, and eventually the Harriers! Gotta check which sqn's use which aircraft nowadays...

Ill take some aerial shots when Im done. But I still have allot of work left. Also got to figure out where Im going to put the AAA...

Ive seen you've placed various fortifications near the oil terminals for example. Are those for the SAM addons your making???

You werent planning on a gun anti aircraft system were you???

Ive been to RAF Laarbruch many times, also had two base visits. Done some aircraft spotting and allmost had all the aircraft from nr 3 and 4 sqn harrier, and also the puma's and chinooks from 18sqn. I even have a piece of the runway at home as souvenir. Ive had many good times while spotting aircraft there with some mates.

Particularly sprinting backwards to read the serials on the random high speed tornado doing mock base attack... And then quickly back because another Harrier was ready for take off. Ive seen a new harrier roll out of the midlife update hangar, and made the maiden flight. Tailcode 77 harrier GR-7. Also finding golf balls that have been shot over the fence by the noob golfers. Or getting chased by a angry farmer with shotgun because I was walking across his field to look inside the nr 3sqn hangar...

And Ive been to RAF Bruggen also few times and also had a base visit there. And we walked arround in a shelters area which look soooo much like what you've created.

So Im very thankfull that you've released such a awesome map so I can play arround with it in OFP! thumbs-up.gif

Happy Valley is one of 4 FARPs designed for the Harrier.  A very short STOL strip and Camo hangers, add an ammo truck and you are laughing.

Be careful you don’t build too many objects in and around the base.  The first version I made had an extensive dual perimeter fence.  It started to cause performance issues.

Traditionally you would place Radar controlled AAA on the high ground by either end of the runway.   But if you are going for a ‘Western Style’ Airbase you should have Short Range SAM  systems rather than guns.

Yes , they are intended for the SA-2 and SA-5 SAMs and their supporting radars.

Yes, the Oerlikon GDF-005 Twin 35mm AAA guns.  Its an optional part of the Skyguard Radar system.  You can use either ASPIDE SAM batteries or the AAA guns.

It wont be released anytime soon, i'm afraid.

Its easy to change. You can find a description and explanation in the WRPTool Manual. All you need to do is find the coordinates in WRPTool at various points along the route you want to take, note them down and then alter the values you have in the config.cpp in the ILS sections.

From the look of the remodel you’ve done you want to change the ilsTaxiOff section values.
